My Laser Cutting workbench and my odyssey in model buildings.

Recommended Posts

A while ago I was looking at modular warehouse parts and recently I was reminded that I need to be getting on with it.

So a few minutes just now....

Parts cut out on the laser. Notice that the sill is cut out and is a press fit for easy building and painting.

Tried for size.

A blast of primer on the brickwork and matt black on the window.

Brick details close up.

I just need to complete the other dozen or so panels I need to make a warehouse. :)

Yes, I'm intending make parts so the entire warehouse can be built but I expect people will use the modules to create low relief back scenes or add a couple of panels to the sides to hide a fiddle yard. On the roof side of things I'll draw up north lights and a regulator pitch.

There will also be windows that can be modelled with openings.

I'd better stop procrastinating and get on with it!

I'll be at Kettering so if you see me I'll have samples with me.

A fence panel experiment made out of used sleepers. I've cut the joins so that the sleepers can be easily taken apart so they can be joggled about to better represent a aged fence.

While I was playing around with used sleepers I had a go at some sleeper built coal staithes.

They look really good.

Are the Staithe's sides made up of 5 individual sleepers or is each side one piece?
I ask for cost considerations.

Also, in the fence and Staithes, are the chair holes blind or all the way through?
I ask because I think the holes might be improved, (from an already high standard), by being a bit smaller diameter and possibly blind too.

Kev.

The 5's are one piece so make it a quick build.

The holes are all the way through and I could make smaller. I'll make an adjustment.

I'll have some with me tomorrow at Kettering and I'll be looking forward to seeing the weathering effects as your photo Mike!

A slight move away from architecture this time but I need some glazing for a couple of Heljan class 47 bodies I picked from Telford a couple of years ago for a good price. :)

Not fixed yet, just placed in position to test fit.

With protective film on the left and my fingers prints on the right :)

The glazing is lasercut too is it? Thanks for the pic, I'm gotta have to try this out, as I will need some glazing for my wagons and was thinking about lasercut, just any of the online services did not really show how does it look.

Great job on the buildings too!

First Draft of Westbury Shed on my workbench today as suggested by Onslaught (Phill Dyson).

This will include engraved brickwork inside and out. Acrylic glazing and MDF window frames on a 3mm MDF base. I was thinking the track would be hand built on the base supplied but I could change it if required.

Let me know what you think...

Hello Phil, Yes I've made a start but then sliced my finger getting the ty-wraps off my new lawn mower.  So not to much modelling or lawn cutting happening just now.

Here's a few photos of the start,  I'm doing a test build from some of your parts and making blind walls on the other 2 sides and fitting corner braces as I go.  Then I'll paint up and see what I have.

Have you got any further with the warehouse modules/bundle you mentioned further back in these posts?
