Hi Paul,

Did you decide on the builder for these wagons - I can't remember and it's not on here?

Also - which wagon numbers apply to your model?

Thanks

ps - wagon still looking good!

If these are the ex UK ones then run as Granit in Europe - check this link.

Hi Phil

The builder was Fauvet-Girel in 1974

It's this type here

http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/belgianpolybulk

Number range 21-88-0998-000, 007, 010, 011, 015-019, 021, 022, 025, 029, 030, 033-057, 066-080 & 100-110

Thanks for the link but it's the original Polybulk grey and green livery I am trying to do.

Cheers

Paul

Hi

I would guess that the top is grey as it is on the rounded types.

The green in the photo wraps around to the raised part of the roof and I have currently painted the green upto this point leaving the centre section with the hatches grey but it looks odd.

If it was a curvey one then the answer would definitely be grey - not sure about the slab side.

jon

It's the slab sided one I'm painting.

Cheers

Paul

One of the features of pre-group and pre-nationalisation modelling is the plethora of history books on locos, coaches and wagons which include informative text, photos, diagrams and scale drawings.

The contrast with the post 1948 is really stark. There are history books (not simply pictorial books) on the BR standard locos and coaches but next to nothing on the wagons and absolutely nothing, nothing at all, post de-nationalisation.

This a great shame in my view as the last 20 years has seen a massive change in rolling stock and it must inhibit those who don't want to rely on the RTR manufacturers in their modelling.

Regards

This is not really true. The main wagon books about pre nat companies all have post Nat inclusion. The following all have a substantial amount about post 1948 wagons and NPCCS

However there is increasing reluctance to pay for books (although they are  cheaper now than in the 1980s, and that is without the discounting so easily found). As Chris Leigh mentioned last month there is little interest in drawings, and no one willing to pay anything like a decent rate to pay for the time taken in their preparation.

Clearly you spent a great deal of time compiling the list but many of the books are photo albums which tends to illustrate the point I was making as does your remark concerning drawings.

The group I was/am involved with have published going on for 200 drawings, although part of this number is a specialist book on industrial internals. There are few drawings of GWR or LMS wagons available either - the books use diagrams, and almost all BR era diagrams are available on the internet via Barrowmore.

The 2mm version looks great. I hope nobody minds me adding some details on a 7mm version I've made.  I had seen this thread and was looking to make a 7mm version but struggled to find any useful drawing.   After seeing the transfers available on the Railtec website I asked for them to be scaled up to 7mm and set about drawing a 7mm version.  I printed the body on my printer in PLA, with Shapeways printed bogies and Form 2 resin printed detail parts.  I painted the wagon using Halfords Ford Laurel green.

I've continued with the various Polybulk wagons and below is an update on progress (copied from my 3D printing thread but hopefully OK to post here as well).

I rescaled and printed a 4mm version of the E443 slab-sided Polybulk, the body is grey PLA and printed in 2 parts on the Balco printer, the details are grey resin printed on the Form 2.  The bogies are Shapeways Multi Jet Fusion Y25 bogies.

The other 4mm Polybulk that's nearly finished is the Malt Distillers version.  Balco PLA 2 part body, Form 2 grey resin details, Shapeways WSF Y25 bogies. Etched ferry loops and brake wheels from 51L/wizard models.

Moving up in scale the 7mm Grainflow Polybulk is nearly finished.  Similar to the first Polybulk its made with a Balco PLA 3 part body, Shapeways WSF Details and Y25 bogies.

Finally for tonight is the 1/32 Grainflow polybulk pictured with the 2 smaller versions.  It's made the same way as the 7mm version with Balco PLA 3 part body, Shapeways WSF Details and Y25 bogies.

A couple of pictures of two 4mm Slab sided Polybulks I've been working on , one in the original livery and the second in the later Nacco blue livery, both use the Railtec 4mm decals with the Nacco version using the alternate numbers supplied with the main Polybulk pack.
