Popular Post cornish trains jez Posted September 19, 2014 Popular Post Share Posted September 19, 2014 Good evening, I recently purchased a very small collection of slides, with copyright, of Par station during the 80's (and a couple of others outside this period), and I thought I would share them with you. A friend of mine has kindly scanned in the slides and cleaned them up where necessary. There are still quite a few to scan in and I will post these as soon as they are done. But for now, here are those that are ready and I hope you enjoy them. I have also posted these in my Par station layout thread. If anyone has any further photos of Par in the 80's that they wish to add, then please post them here if you want to. Here we go: We will kick it off with 50011 "Centurion" on a Plymouth to Penzance local on 30th July 1984. Here is bubble car class 122 55009 forming set P109 which has just arrived from Newquay on 9th March 1988. Next up is class 37207 "William Cookworthy" which is stabled at Par on 23rd July 1983 A very work stained 37273 arrives from St Blazey with an engineers ballast train on 30th July 1984 Here is large logo 50028 "Tiger" with the Penzance - Aberdeen. I don't have the dates to hand for the following photos but I'll post them as soon as the slides arrive back with me. Railfreight grey liveried 37196 "Tre, Pol and Pen" 50018 "Resolution" on what looks like a Plymouth bound local. A class 118 DMU lurks in the background in the Newquay bay. 50021 "Rodney" waits to depart with a West bound train, possible early 80's. 47463 (I think) with an inspection vehicle. An HST passes 50043 "Eagle", which is in the loop, just to the East of Par. Class 50 passing the signal box. Another large logo 50, this time Penzance bound. Another 50 just to the East of Par. Waiting to depart. Class 118 DMU P480. Hybrid DMU, set P871, consisting of a class 101 and class 108. Last but not least, and not from the 80's but a great shot. Take a trip back to 1966.....enjoy! brianusa Posted October 25, 2014 Share Posted October 25, 2014 Is there a better station in Cornwall than Par? Lostwithiel maybe but its lost a lot of infrastructure. St Erth is nice but PZ is a bit too business like. Par on the other hand is still loaded with signals, sidings, structures and points with SBZ just up the road. I visited him at least a couple of times a year, sometimes more and drove past the station on every occasion. I've been looking for evidence of a railfreight grey liveried 47 at Par, now I have one and it will be modelled on my layout working a ballast train as per your photo. Th Cornish area has always fascinated me, and I am doing a bit of research into a Cornish layout (post- Beeching) I am hoping to sift through a few layouts to see which would be most suitable.Is there one available for Par?Any help you can tender would be much appreciated. However, I do plan to finish it one day! Here is one of the original liveried HST's lead by power car 253034 arriving at Par on an up express on the 10th September 1982. Power cars 43137 + 43136 A DMU lurks on the opposite side of the platform, possible waiting to connect the service to Newquay. More to follow! Railfreight liveried class 37669 arrives with a rake of Tiger PBA's, 2x HEA's and what looks like some kind of 4 wheel tippler/ballast/spoil wagon. IIRC they lasted in that use until about 2003 when they were chopped up and replaced with purpose built stores for P-way materials. Continuing first with 37669 which has, from the previous photo, shunted around its train ready to propel the train back and then head into St Blazey. Next up, large logo class 47481 with an ex-Penzance van train. 37675 lurks in the background waiting for a path with a rake of CDA's. Railfreight liveried 37675 "Willima Cookworthy" departs with the CDA's. Railfreight liveried 50149 arrives with a speedlink working bound for St Blazey. And finally, large logo 47564 "Collusus" heads through Par with two MK1 BG vans. 37675 wiats in the background as seen in the previous photos. More to follow soon. I believe trains up from the west sometimes had a loco attached rear in order to haul around to St Blazey.
