Devonbelle
Hi all I thought Id share my modest efforts in o gauge. My layout is 11 feet long; of the 11 feet a part is a 5 foot long fiddle yard. Its two feet deep. Its set somewhere in the top left hand corner of France - so inspired by trips to Picardy / Boulogne areas. Its not finished yet so keeps evolving plus some buildings need further work - drain pipes, glazing etc. The grave yard will be replaced by a gang of folk playing boule. Rolling stock is mainly reworked Lima - and the buildings are scratch built in the main - there are a few Skytrex buildings too. The back row of terraced buildings I scratch built in card and heavily varnished and based on dimensions of the former Metcalf models o gauge terraced houses - Im sold on card as a modelling medium - the buildings are incredibly strong once multi layered with matt varnish. Theres bit of an Allo Allo theme going on - which goes down well at exhibitions - there is a Cafe Rene, Air Flick Coiffure, Garage Leclerc and of course Nouvion is the town name from the TV serves - its also a real place in Picardy - with the nearest station Im guessing as Noyelle on the Boulogne Paris main line and Noyelle is still served by lovely 67xxx Bo Bos - catch them while you can. The layout appeared yesterday at the very well run Culm Valley Show and next appears at the SNCF winter rendezvous in Lenham, Kent in January 2015. If the technology works there are some photos of the layout earlier this year at the RM web event in Taunton - its developed further still since then. plus I have attached a pic of the real inspiration - BB67000s at Bolougne in 2012. RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted September 21, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 21, 2014 Looks good, like the Allo allo references, unfortunately I missed the Taunton meeting & too much to do yesterday to go to Culm Valley show maybe another time... Rivercider
Bonjour Paul, it was good to see Nouvion again, and have a chat. The layout attracted quite a lot of positive comments while I was watching. I enjoyed the Culm Valley Show, it was a good day out, cheers
kintbury jon
Look forward to seeing the layout at Lenham!
RhBBob
No doubt about it ! The Lima rolling stock has been the inspiration for many a first venture into 'O' scale. And loads of it regularly turns up on Ebay in both UK and Germany. And probably Italy as well A lovely layout !! 37114
Nice little layout, I saw it at Larkrail last year, my kids loved it too.
F-UnitMad
Now that is something a bit different! I like the way the location can be 'got' without any trains in view, if that makes sense? I take it the 'middle' track forms a run-round loop with the platform track? It's a very simple, yet versatile trackplan.
Devonbelle
Thanks all. Theres no run round loop ;o) So that means arriving pass trains are shunt realised - either by the station pilot or another train engine backs on. Thats useful to know the location can be 'got' - without trains - thanks indeed. Theres more Francophile elements to go on (thats not a cue for a fourth Citreon 2CV) - plus I have painted a figure as Rene Artois ) Nouvion will keep evolving. Im now plotting my next layout - which is going to be Japanese o gauge - so Im certain the appearance of neon adverts, level crossing barriers in black and yellow chevrons, many overhead power lines in cramped streets with new and old buildings cheek by jowl will give it a unique feel. Thanks again for the comments - next element on Nouvion and not running on Saturday last is the narrow gauge line, with a few distressed tipper wagons. A bientôt Paul
F-UnitMad
Thanks all. Theres no run round loop So that means arriving pass trains are shunt realised - either by the station pilot or another train engine backs on. Wow - an even simpler track plan!! But shunt releasing = even more operating potential, and the excuse to run two locos at the same time on a small layout !! ... and without the loop point & headshunt, longer trains can be run as well...

DanielB
What a superb layout. Do you have any more photos?
Devonbelle
Thanks to Daniel for the comments - a few more photos attached - as the shot from the stage shows (at the Jan 2015 SNCF society show) there isn't much to Nouvion - The other shots were taken at the Oct 2015 o gauge continental show at Winchester, to give a flavour of what's achieveable with sheet cardboard - wooden coffee stirrers to build Cafe Rene and the Epicerie Fine. Then last shot shows my pal Chris - helping with the layout - always good to have someone as a friendly critic - so he has inspired me to strive to better my modelling
Focalplane
What, no Peugeots? It is amazing what can be done in Gauge 0 using minimal space. Thank you for sharing your layout and experiences.
Devonbelle
Hello. Nouvion has been the subject of work the past few weeks as it’s back out on the road in a few weeks time. After being squirreled away following 3 shows in 2015 it’s appearing at the French Railway Society get together on Sunday 10th February. The event is at Lenham in Kent; charming village with a good train service, not too far from Maidstone - always a good display of French layouts in various gauges. If you do come, please do come and say hello. http://frenchrailwayssociety.org/index.php?p=1_16 Few shots this morning of 67349 pottering around - first train in two years. Few more jobs to tidy up over the next two weeks. A bientot Paul
Devonbelle
Nouvion being dusted off ready for the 22 October 2022 show in Winchester - the UKs only dedicated O gauge Continental show. http://www.winchesterogaugemeet.co.uk Ive parked my Croatian o gauge layout after its last show at Larkrail on 23 July. It’s hopefully back out again next spring. I’m building a new fiddle yard and scenic section for Nouvion. So if you want a Continental o gauge fix (or just a Continental model fix) pop 22-10-22 in the diary. couple of shots from a few years ago. I’ll post progress on updating the layout. Devonbelle
Been doing some work on Nouvion ready for this coming Saturday when the o gauge Continental show (European and American) occurs in Winchester. i sold the CFD20 a year ago - to a French rail fan, so he plans to keep in CFD colours. It’s a lovely show and a pleasure to support again. Here’s the show details www.alan49.x10.mx/index1w.htm Below Nouvion out in the sunshine yesterday. Devonbelle
Winchester Continental show yesterday was very good - the superb Bad Obering was there. Nouvion behaved itself and it was lovely to meet old and new faces. Northroader you were missed! The improved fiddle yard (with a behind the scenes crossover) helped operational flexibility and interest. I’ll iron a few things out and do some more detailing this week. Few photos below of it at the Winchester show. Plus a shot of Alan Marlow (show organiser) diorama of a Vicinal petrol tram - don’t see Belgium based o gauge models often - although Alan says it’s nearer to 1/50 scale. All scratchbuilt. RMweb Premium Northroader Posted October 23, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 23, 2022 Actually I come unstuck on my shorty programme recently, reuniting the top and bottom of a diesel which had accidentally shed a few feet, I found the b—- motor had stopped going. Sorry, Paul, I should have made more of an effort, particularly since I’m agog about the new project. And I missed the cooked breakfast, and the chance to pick up more old Pola wagons. That Vicinal diorama looks nice, you could have a tram on a bridge instead of a bus: 4
