Tenshodo Motor bogie

Recommended Posts

Bob, the body of the Tenshodo bogie is at least 2mm too wide to allow it to be re-gauged for 14mm, and even if you tried to narrow the body, you would strike trouble with the structure of the device.

A BullAnt can be supplied to any gauge you like to nominate between 9mm and 25mm.

I loked at the BullAnt units but they all loked too high to fit under the loco. If you can supply one with the same rail to motor hight as the Tenshodo unit I will have at least two.

Sorry, can't do that. The reason a Tenshodo or Black Beetle motor bogie cannot be made to less than 16.5mm gauge is because the motor is situated between the wheels. Unless the bogie has a very long wheelbase allowing the motor to fit in between the wheels longitudinally, you cannot do it.

The only two alternative approaches are to use a very tiny motor, and that brings its own problems in terms of lack of power, or place the motor up above the drive train, as in the BullAnt.

I need a drive to fit under the Nonneminstre Hudson Hunslet/Muir Hill Fordson so I can run them on O14 track.

Don't/didn't Wrightlines do some chassies for 14mm Narow Gauge?

Yes they do but to allow for the narrower chassis the motor is turned to stand on it's edge. This makes the whole thing higher, which in turn encroaches into the engine bay/footplate of the locos.
