TDMRC is back off its summer hols (clubrooms closed for refurbishment) and the BIG news is that this Friday (Sept 11th) the ADDISON ROAD group is holding a 7mm DIESEL & ELECTRIC themed running session.

The club in general is looking to attract more D&E modellers (that's MODERN IMAGE in old money! :jester:) and so the Addison Road group thought they would play their part by holding a D&E evening.

So if YOU have any 32mm gauge D&E stock please come along this Friday and give it a run. Details of how to get to our clubrooms can be found here www.tdmrc.org.uk .

We haven't posted for a while - apologies - but that doesn't mean that the group has been idle - far from it!

Firstly, the footbridge gained a roof (photo taken at the 'work in progress' stage!)

post-4476-0-48040800-1445409408_thumb.jpg

Then work began on building the station canopies that need to be modified to accept the footbridge..

post-4476-0-20894400-1445409426_thumb.jpg

Then cut to suit ....

Lastly, the various bits went to the paint shop .....

Whilst all this was happening, progress was being made on the LNWR platform railings front ....

And after a few hours work .... this appeared ......

..... one thing that seems to have escaped the attention to detail is the negative conductor rail in the pointwork (more so that the positive), parts of which would not only have had the collector shoes of a real train in short order. Otherwise, it's very nice and will be interesting to see as it gets nearer completion.

Jim

Some time ago Jim Snowdon pointed out an issue with the design of the conductor rail and we've now had an opportunity to look at that and have another go at it ...

This is how it looks now (albeit not quite finished) ....

post-4476-0-46953000-1446366377.jpg

Here is an example of how we did it originally ....

Much, much better, and I will assume the unfinished bit to be the detailing on the positive rail.

Happy to have helped,

Jim

Hello Jim

Not 100% sure as I am not directly involved with any of the modelling on AR ( I don't even model 7mm myself - in fact don't even model British!! ) - I am just the scribe but I know that there was a little more to do when that photo was taken.

But thanks for you input on this - hope to see you in person when the layout is shown at its first fully public show next year - at Reading.

Last week saw another Saturday work day and the lure of home made soup and rolls attracted a large turn out ..... and a good turn out (usually) means good progress!

Firstly the footbridge has been worked on .... all it needs now is glazing!

post-4476-0-67031500-1447917370_thumb.jpg

And a nice little scene could be made around the steps ......

post-4476-0-88447800-1447917334_thumb.jpg

John, our member who lives in Chicago ( not so much a 'Country' member' as 'Another Country' member! ) arrived with this little beauty .....

post-4476-0-37717500-1447917360_thumb.jpg

Whilst Mike arrived with a mystery loco .....

post-4476-0-13181800-1447917342_thumb.jpg

And we made more progress with the 4th rail upgrades around the pointwork ....

post-4476-0-68628200-1447917350_thumb.jpg

Work also started on the layout's lighting/facia  ..... we are working with another (private) club layout on this and using many/most of their components ... another benefit of being part of a club!

It's been a while ..... what's new at Addison Road?

Firstly we are planning the lighting facia - always the sign that a layout is nearing completion! We hope to use a lighting canopy already in use on a private club layout - a 'FN3' gauge layout called 'OR&P' - and in case you're wondering what 'FN3' is, it's posh 'G' gauge!

Here is a test fitting of an 'OR&P' lighting support bracket.

Meanwhile a lot of work has been done (by Grant) on the operating schedule ... here is the schedule written up and colour coded for the signalman ..

post-4476-0-87274700-1450250529_thumb.jpg

Other news centres on new stock seen at running sessions ..

Mike's new Oerlikon .... still needing glazing!

post-4476-0-03381800-1450250520_thumb.jpg

Mike's Metropolitan # 46

post-4476-0-11366900-1450250513_thumb.jpg

And something for the diesel fans .....

Ok .......... it's 2016!

And that means our first ever exhibition - READING on May 7th !!

The group are burning the midnight oil getting the layout (and stock) ready for the show ......

One major improvement is the addition of our specially etched LNWR 'unclimbable' fencing ....

post-4476-0-18643800-1453279949_thumb.jpg

The cost of this etching was donated by friends of the late Ewen Crossweller as a memorial to his work on Addison Road

post-4476-0-87488200-1453279967_thumb.jpg

meanwhile some extra details are being added ...... downpipes on the station buildings  ... in this photo the unpainted downpipes are in place, but they need flanges fitting and then painting black

The pace of progress quickens - the READING SHOW beckons!

Our signal engineer (Pat) has been at it again - and this is the most iconic of Addison Road signals - the Down Starter.

post-4476-0-04894000-1455693506.jpg

Yes, it all works .... or will do when the servos are fitted. And yes that's Pat himself!........

post-4476-0-80242700-1455693512.jpg

Fully detailed ......

post-4476-0-62971200-1455693507.jpg

Meanwhile others are installing the hoardings.....

post-4476-0-13290700-1455693509_thumb.jpg

New etchings have arrived for the Russell Road houses which form the backdrop to the layout....

post-4476-0-46294100-1455693510_thumb.jpg

The first one is assembled and ready to be fitted ............

OK .... the modelling pace is quickening!  Our official 'launch' at our Open Day (July 25th) is fast approaching!

Work has concentrated on the main station building area .. fitting the new gas lamps that hang under the canopies..

Hi guys, if you have already mentioned it elsewhere, please forgive me, but whose lamps are these?

Les

Ok, have tracked them down

They are actually 4mm lamps with an optional extension to make them taller. The ref # is DML-LMSO.  I will track down some detailed photos and post them.

Sorry guys, many thanks for your replies (and LNWR modeller) but I meant the hanging ones under the canopy in post 40? Are they still DCC?

Many thanks Les
