jhock
Could any one tell me what type of cement the RhB Cement wagons carry? The type that look like a large cylinder on flat wagon. Is wet or powder? I am looking to get suitable road vehicle to sit in a siding.
jhock
Thanks I thought that would be the case. So to receive it you either have to have small cement works or powder tank at the station or a dry bulk tanker that can off load the wagon the with compressed air? gismorail
Having travelled on the Rhb over the years I have often seen these cement tankers in sidings around the network. As the Dutch Master rightly said its in power form and local builders / suppliers discharge the contents via compressed air into road tankers and then transport it to building sites in the areas. For many years the Swiss building industry has been very safety aware and well organised , which shows in the way the country is run ....... spotless and efficient are the words that come to mind. Even the smallest sites tend to have a bulk cement silo on site along with a mini tower crane keeping manual handling to the minimum. Hope this info is of help. Irishswissernie
Not quite a narrow gauge cement wagon but it was on the RhB and the same method would be used if the cement was from Untervatz. Thusis August 1997
