And finally, for now, 31414 at Didcot East Junction with the 1106 Birmingham New Street to Reading on November 16th 1989. This was a regular Class 31 job; the loco and stock went back as the 1334 to Manchester.

Indeed, I did, but they were all the same.

I have a policy of not having identical locos anymore, other than, er 47s

Having said that it would be hard to do I think as Hornby released 31111 as a blue skinhead, but you'd have to be careful as that was one of the rotten ones, or repaint 105 from rail freight grey.

What I really need is a 50.....

You should be safe using a 31111 Rob- I don't believe that these were ones affected by chassis rot. My 111 (with a chassis swap) is now 31450 with it's armoured windscreen.

How about this then an ETH 31/0

At this time the 31 31013 was converted to a mobile ETH generator you can see the ETH plug behind the right hand buffer.

Its departmental number was ADB968013

Cheers

I was the driver on 31439 when it was named at Grosmont, it was named by the actor Ian Carmicheal. At the time i had no idea who he was. But he seemed a very nice chap and insisted on having his photo taken with me

31's were something that rarely crossed my path back in the day, rather a shame as I quite liked their robust ugliness and they made a change from my usual diet of 33/47/73's around Eastleigh.

This shot of an unidentified blue 31/4 at Reading is the only one I recall taking, there may be a couple more somewhere but I'd have to go through about 40 packs of prints in the hope of finding them...

Not an everyday location for a 31 - 31190 stabled at Fort William. Again don't know the date - probably c2003

The VEAs or Vanfits in the foreground are intriguing? Edited by richierich

I wish I had a decent camera when I worked at KX in the 1970's, 31s on the Cambridge buffet, 31s on loco-hauled suburbans, the Widened Lines, the Northern City Line...the silly-o-clock KX-Donny all stops on a Saturday morning...ecs at Bounds Green...many hours clocked up on those.
