New layout - using stuff up

Hi all,

I thought it is high time I stuck my head above the parapet again. The following photos are of an EM gauge layout under construction which is built on three random bits of ply and MDF which were getting underfoot in the garden shed. As much as possible it is using up things which are lying around. So far, I've spent something like £10 on specialist bits, I might have to spend another £20 perhaps but that would be stretching it. The locomotives are a scratchbuilt steeple cab and a A1 models Ruston. I also have a Roxey models Planet diesel and a scratchbuilt Sentinel 0-4-0 diesel which might have their moment.

The pointwork is freehand, I drew in the centrelines then set out the rough rail positions from there and then spent a week building it. The buildings are now going on then the overhead wires will be looked into.

Pointwork is amazing - an electrified industrial system is most unusual. Looking forward to seeing how this develops. Its also got me wondering what odd bits of timber I've got lying around in the garage ....

Having great fun - yesterday built a low relief industrial gable end using Wills asbestos and brick sheets and started on the boilerhouse using the same. Painted up the industrial unit today, this is great fun as I'm not being overfussy about any aspect of it. Whatever happens as I go along stays. The really fun thing is it is just under 3 feet long so I can take it to club meets etc without filling the car. More being done tomorrow, with photos being taken as I go.
