The engineering prototype of Sea Lion in action yesterday on a private indoor track on Fraggle Rock, after trial fitting of r/c equipment. Not long now for the production locos!

For some reason it's duplicating the link twice so won't play on i devices unless you quote and copy half the link

See if this works

Hi William.

She's a little beauty, but not the usual 7/8ths fare as the prototype is so small - I'm a very tight fit in the cab of the real thing!  The video gives a good guide of her size as the private layout she is running on is populated with familiar 15 & 16mm stock.  She doesn't look too out of place with the 16mm stock, or will look great with proper 7/8ths Groudle stock. (IP are doing kits).  It wouldn't be a practical running model in 16mm other than as a party piece.  With the tiny wheels she is so steady, it looks like it's whizzing along in the video but really she was going quite slowly.

I think Ian is taking her to Warley if you're going.

That doesn't look like your line Neil. Test track at work? Lucky Devil. Loco looks nice.

Don

Whoops, missed this from ages ago, sorry Don.

No, it's a private line in the South of the island, indoors in a large building.  Run by an informal group, I'm not a member as it is a long way from me (60 mile round trip) but I get to go occasionally!

Sea Lion is now under production in the factory and is expected in July, we're collecting deposits now as this is a fund raiser for Brown Bear.

Is it  possible  to  do  a  60 Mile  round  trip on the  Island?

When I used to  work on the I O M for  what  is  now GSK selling  my pills  &  potions! I used to be  there   for 3  days ( 2 night in  that  Posh  Hotel with  the the  Casino!)   at a time every 2 to 3 months,  So when  I had done  the  rounds  of  Shopright H/O, Booker,  the IOM  Co-oP and  a few  Pharmacies and others I used to have about a  day spare, so I was able  to  go and  watch the  trains!  The point of all this  though is that  when  Mylchreests ( the  car  hire  company)  checked my mileage when I returned the car ( usually a Mini Metro not much choice in those  days) I had invariably  only  done  around 120 miles in the 3 days!    Happy  Days!!

Not disimilar to the Isle of Wight that is about 25 miles side to side and about 60 miles for a circular trip. Man is a little more elongated but Ramsey to Port Erin is only 22miles so I canot imagine it was the shortest route.

I missed these posts, sorry.

Man is 32 miles long, as the crow flies.  I live in Andreas (at the top of the island almost) and the indoor line is situated in a 'top secret' location between Port Erin and PSM.  So by road, the round trip is about 65 miles IIRC using the quickest route. (St Judes, Sulby, Ballaugh, Ballacraine, Ballamhoda Straight, Castletown Bypass(!!) and Gansey to PSM/PE)  Longer routes are available!  About 50 minutes each way in the car....rather less on the bike!

Edit:-  Gurgle Maps gives 47 km (29 miles) and 49 minutes each way!

A friend in Devon has a large building with an indoor line. When I went one August is was so wet and cold we forgot the outdoor line and ran on the inside one with a stove on. It is a nice idea having an indoor line as an addition.

Lovely model, I built Sea Lion and Polar Bear for a model Groudle Glen layout in the 1980s, enjoyed it and sold on. This is better!
