Earlier in this tread, ther is some more of the BRUFF at Eastleigh, I took some detailed shots of it (with Permission, especially as it had some of our lowliner wheels in the back!), Its well Rogered......well beyound economic repair, for a start, the roof in the cab has completely disintigrated from corrosion.

The only good thing is that it still has all of its rail equipment, albeit by now very seized.

Cheers

Some more nice finds there jcb.

British Railways aquired two of these Guy Special buses from London Transport in 1965 for staff transport. One each for the Western and Midland Regions. EFE has just brought out the W R one seen here alongside one I made earlier from the old GS Models whitemetal kit.

Andy,

Its definatley not complete, theres an awful lot missing, the only complete but seized bits are the rail wheels, and the engine is there, the back body isnt too bad I suppose though......would cost stupid money to put right, that is IF you could get the non standard parts for it.

Cheers

I see,  problem will be the corrosion,  an new cab would be tricky as they would have been coachbuot on a standard cab, and the missing bits will be hard to locate  - I thought the one at Eastleigh had long since gone for scrap....

Bing maps show the crane there as well : http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=stjht0gwbzjc&lvl=19.48&dir=354.5&sty=b&eo=0&where1=DE24%208UP%2C%20Derby%2C%20Derby%20City&form=LMLTCC and it looks like the van may be out on the road.

Edit - bizarre - if you follow the link above the van and crane are the same positions as on google but if you go to the postcode and then go to birds eye view, the van is out on the road

Facinating, and it looks like a Ford Escort Mk.3 to me.  BR had a load of F reg. ones, so that would make it 25 years old now !  And the crane even older.

Merf, found another pic of my fathers Bedford tk showing the lettering if any help.

Facinating Gordon, an unusual body on that, crying out to be modelled. My list shows it as a Bedford KCD7 4ton of April 1961.

Not many photos about of Bedford TK rigids in red & cream.

Which engineering branch did he work for ?

Thank you Merf,

He was based at Hitcin Herts, but I think he had somthing to do with Frinsbury Park if my memory serves me.

Monday was Local Stevenage/Arlsey and every other week Frinsbury, Tuesday served Biggleswade/Huntingdon Wednesday was Peterbo area.

and sometimes Frinsbury/Holloway/Hornsey. same Thursday and Friday for Frinsbry area. Again hoping my memory is good!

This is our the lorry should have looked ...But took many months before it did.

Nice pics of the TK and nice models too, just changing the subject slightly in this pic of BR Escort van at Spalding , was this model called a Combi? , all the foremen at a firm I worked for had 1.3 petrol versions of this van and really rated them.

The escort was the combi, much rarer compared to the standard escort van, it was an estate car without windows, although the ones we had at Reading Depot had rear seat conversions, but were very uncomfortable in the back.

Uncomfortable and dangerous. All those vans with the optional back seat were the same, Escorts, HAs, Marinas. No seat belts. Cheap !

One of my mates wrote a Ital van off once. He was sitting in the back, all 6foot 6inch of him and a sudden stop propelled him forward ripping the drivers seat from the floor, not worth repairing.

Similar vehicles were used by quite a lot of companies. Often, the windows of the rear portion would be obscured by Perspex panels on the inside(for some reason, the one I remember was Rediffusion). The logic was that such a vehicle had a higher resale value than a comparable van, and would often be available before the van was upgraded (the Ford small van was still an Anglia for some time after the Mk1 Escort arrived, IIRC). The company didn't pay Car Tax on it when buying, whilst a private buyer might well fit a back seat without declaring it...We had a Mini van with a retro-fitted back seat; the thing was supported by two traverse Dexion angles, which would make contact with the battery terminals if they deflected under load.

Mainland European dealers sold such vehicles until quite recently; organisations like La Poste and EdF would have hundreds of two-seater Renault 5s, Peugeot 205s and similar for people like delivery drivers, technicians etc. A friend used to pick them up for a song.

It is the weirdest way I've seen of displaying a Flickr gallery, but this works for me:

WR Foden S21 coonverted to a recovery lorry for ONCL.

Thanks Adam, not for me. It leads me to my photostream or my contacts but no luck finding that picture.  I have seen some  by John Harrington ('uw167') of the YUV batch, is it one of these ?

Merf.

Got it in the end, yes one of John's, there are more on the photostream.

Most odd, I can click straight through, but glad you got there in the end. I can't say I've seen a Flickr photostream display in that way before, very awkward. Nice shot of an interesting vehicle though.

The normal way to get on a flickr site . You will find a few railway motors on John's site.
