kirley
I'm looking for information on "Brown Van". These were built after the 2nd WW partly by the NCC and partly by Harland and Wolff Shipbuilders. They were a very common site not only on Stream but also Railcar passenger services to carry mail and luggage. This picture courtesy of Bacc2 shows them in operation in 1967 at Antrim. I would like preferably plans of these wagons or if that is not possible their dimensions. They appear to have a longer wheel base than most 4 wheel wagons. David Jackson
Brown vans were built in two batches. The first was 1928 -1932, Class V7, numbers 661 to 674 built at York Road, the second was 1946 - 1949 Class V15, numbers 675 to 699. Harland & Wolff built 676 - 680, 691 & 693 - 699. H & W built the underframes for the rest, and the bodies were built by the NIRTB. Some brown vans had outside W irons as per NCC freight stock, the others had more modern inside W irons. I have not looked into this as yet, but I would imagine that the earlier batch had the outside W irons. I only have drawings in PDF format, so I can't post them here, but I will send you a PM . David Jackson
If you look closely at the picture, you can just make out the two types of W irons. From left to right, inside, inside, outside, inside, outside, outside, inside, inside.
kirley
Thank you David, the drawings are what I had hoped for. Now to source a suitable 24' chassis with a 14' wheel base.
