A couple of shots of Bachmann ventilated vans. One can never have too many vans.

Already posted elsewhere, an image of one of my small prairies.

The initial weathering was with powders secured with acrylic matt varnish. I didn't want an overly grubby loco. I wanted one that looked as if it had received a bit of tlc from the cleaners.

Therefore, I applied auto motive polish to the side tanks using cotton buds and then removed it using cotton buds in small circular motions. I tried to replicate 4mm hands!!

I have a couple of these prairies. The next will be a bit cleaner...not much...The Bachmann green comes up lovely with a bit of polish. Darkens and I think it gives an impression of a solid loco, if you get my drift.

The only down side of using the polish is it can leave a white residue in the detail which can be a sod to remove...if you have lost the particular brush you use to do this.......

As the nights draw in, my thoughts are turning once again to adding to the stock on Sheep Lane. Not done too much since the last post but here's a few more dirty images. Some if not all have appeared elsewhere on the forum but are presented here as further examples of my work.......er....play.....fun......playing trains.

Not done much in the way of weathering stock other than to tidy up the 700 a little.

Should see some further weathering of stock for new project, Mutton, which is quietly progressing along.

Taking centre stage on Mutton is the platform, the usual Southern concrete job.

PECO sides, painted then weathered with powders.

I use the same colours and powders to weather all parts of the layout as well as the stock.

Here are a few images of a couple of buildings.

Same principles apply.

Buildings+weathering powders+acrylic varnish = weathering.

Hey Norm,

That Adams Radial is fantastic! I saw that Hornby Posted up a photo on their instagram page, job well done!

What powders do you use? I recently was able to pick up the Humbrol 'Smoke' powder from a model shop, but they are really hard to find here, and to top it off - I can't get them sent from overseas! (from anywhere i've found)

Are you still using automotive polish to get the shiny areas?

regards

Jack

Thanks Jack.

Very kind of you to say so..

I use Humbrol powders. Mainly using smoke, black and iron oxide. I vary things with a bit of white, rust and dark earth.

I tend to apply the iron oxide first then shade the areas with black before applying smoke all over. This tones down the iron oxide. I then add any further shading and lighten with a touch of white to highlight.

The issue is sealing them with Humbrol Matt acrylic varnish. Too much and the colours are lost as it's too wet. A light dusting is the order of the day as this adds further texture to the powders themselves.

Hope this helps,

Rob
