Chris Higgs
Is anyone able to tell me the size the ribs on Stanier coach roofs were. I'm about to model some in 2mm scale, so although I will probably have to do them overscale, it would be nice to know what they should have been. I found that those on GWR collett coaches were 2" by 1/4", but could not find any similar detailed drawings for the LMS. Chris Higgs
brossard
I had a quick look in Essery & Jenkinson's "LMS Coaches" but didn't see any specific info on roof ribs. Jenkinson's "Historic Carriage Drawings, LMS and Constituents" has lots of drawings of Period III coaches but no detail on the dimensions of the ribs. To my eye, ribs on the 4mm/ft drawings seem to be ~1mm. Thickness is usually taken to be the thickness of tape in 4mm. If Coachman sees this thread he may have a better answer. Mad_Hatter
I haven't yet walked along a LMS coach roof, but a mapping pen with thickest paint most likely be the best bet in 2mm scale, as for a GWR coach you will be only wanting 0.3mm wide strip 0.075mm high so most likely be the same more or less for LMS coaches.
