Here are a few pictures of my layout, its far from finished and the stock in the pictures are mostly old stuff used for gauging.

The scenario is that the port of Cley next the sea in Norfolk did not silt up in the 1500s and became a port to rival Yarmouth. The GE continued the main line to here. There is also a secondary route to King's Lynn and the Midlands ( more duplication for the M&GN!)

The layout when complete will be a circuit with a triangle into the station which is a watered down Norwich but for space issues the King's Lynn line leg of the triangle is single

it will be dcc an is set 1966/68 so green and blue diesels

A couple of bridges I have built recently the smaller one will be a scenic break for a truncated branch line which is now a single siding serving a grain silo

The longer one is to add some relief to what would otherwise be a fairly flat yard

Just spotted your thread Russ. This is looking terrific and I can only envy the space you have available! How long's the build been going on? One more thing... "Cley"... it's pronounced "Cly", not "Clay", isn't it? Not a million miles away but I was never sure of the pronunciation!

Shouldn't you still have the windmill in the back ground? http://www.cleywindmill.co.uk/ though without James Blount wailing.

Thanks for the Norfolk esq compliments can't really reply in the dialect , as I ain't be from round ere!!

Would love a windmill like Cley but you can't get them and would be a bit of a challenge to scratch build. It was hard enough to to learn flint walling as no one does them either

Have to agree, scratchbuilding a windmill would be a challenge, I had enough trouble with a bus shelter! Hornby do an octagonal resin windmill but that's not a lot like the one at Cley. However, I did just spot this... it's a resin Hornby item (R9245) and round, like Cley. Surprisingly, it's from the Thomas range and discontinued. If you could find one secondhand and repaint the brickwork, it might make a good starting point...

Hi Russ,

Just stumbled across your thread, as you can see by the numerous "likes".  Living in Essex, we have had many great holidays in Norfolk, including the north Norfolk area.  It's nice to see the area replicated and your model looks excellent.  It would be good to see a layout plan if you can upload one.

Keep up the good work.

Regards,

Brian.

I can write Norfolk providing I've got a reference book handy, but I can't speak it as I be vrom zomerzet you see and go all west country which upsets locals round here in North Norfolk.

I too have to learn flint work form my layout in Wiltshire.

Keep up the good work

You're right - it is stone, isn't it? I thought the "bricks" looked a bit big! Duh...

some large buildings there :sungum: , great work :locomotive:

Thank you. The grain store on the quayside is Walther's as is the concrete bridge and goods shed. The station building is an old 1970s Hornby kit that were actually rebranded polo ho kits. I've used one of these for the upper floors and scratchbuilt the ground floor so it doesn't look under scale anymore
