richard i
Like the jar in the background, Richard! The local ice cream/sweet shop here has a chocolate one on display. Labelled as Marmite flavoured chocolate! Jim Chocolate marmite, now you have my attention. It is a job to track the real stuff down here in the states, but chocolate....uuuummmm.
richard i
Rebuilding silver jubilee bogies and constructing/ converting others whilst the oil paint drys on the bogies for the other coaches. A distraction I know but it will look good. I have checked on fox how much for the roof boards end board and head board to really finish the train off. richard i
The final three.Turns out this can get built. Carve in doors, add detail, MTK sides, Kirk under frame, comet bogies, 247 buffers, have I forgotten anything? The last two teak. Photo makes them look more battered than they do in real life, but still might do the roof of each in gray because they certainly do not look ex works. Now to build the boxes to store them.Richard Edited November 10, 2017 by richard i
RMweb Gold Regularity Posted November 10, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2017 Now to build the boxes to store them. You could always buy them:https://youtu.be/vS-bFTzymuA
richard i
You could always buy them: https://youtu.be/vS-bFTzymuA I have a system using foam board and plastic boxes. It must work reasonablly well as some stock is on house move number 7 and that includes being bumped around in a container on a ship crossing the Atlantic. Slightly terrified by the link to be honest. Richard Edited November 10, 2017 by richard i
APOLLO
And I thought American trains had no "buffers" !!!!!! Brit15

richard i
Less terrifying than o gauge boxes. So they can travel in safety. Richard
richard i
So three bogies repaired, one built up from parts. Now it all rolls. It now needs detailing. I must research exactly what needs changing, adding and improving. Richard
richard i
Proof I have done something this side of the pond. And it is back to pre grouping again. A gcr 12am starting to come together. How long before completion? Who knows.
richard i
Some take aways from Warley. I go with things that make me think. First buckingham. How could I not be inspired? But it is more the cameos I think about. Loved the snow on here. So different and so atmospheric The forced perspective on this was great, leading the viewer in. Will it feed in to the layout? Yes. How? Not sure yet, thinking on it. Richard
richard i
One thing which will appear is a new pre grouping driver. Modelu of me, for the price it is a great addition to the layout.
richard i
Gearbox made up from high level. If anyone has any experience working with outside cranks from romford happy to receive any advice on how it goes together to ensure smooth running. richard i
The running plate is now complete. As I have the side pieces cab etc cut out it might go together quite quickly from here. ......or not, Christmas, etc get in the way. richard i
Maybe the pace will quicken? The side tanks and cab front. It needs all its detail to be joined permanently but I want to get boiler and smokebox linked before joining them together forever. richard i
It does look to be in the photo. Looking at it on the desk, it does not seem to be. It is always a concern with plasticard. I will be on the watch for it vigilantly as the cement for each join drys and pulls on the layers of plasticard around it. I should probably have started my first true loco scratch build with something that has a straight footplate but then this was what I wanted. Should probably ask manna how he gets around it with his prolific amount of plasticard loco building.
richard i
Or Clive, but his are diesels which have less unsupported single sheet plasticard. Unless it is a Clayton? Richard
RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted December 22, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 22, 2017 Or Clive, but his are diesels which have less unsupported single sheet plasticard. Unless it is a Clayton? Richard It will straighten out once the boiler is in place. the beauty of plastic card if it bends when being built it will always go back the other way.
Caley Jim
001a.jpg Claytons are one diesel I do have a wee bit of a soft spot for having seen them going through Greenfoot LC in pairs when brand new. I guess that dates me!! Jim
gr.king
If you can find space you could always epoxy a couple of metal stiffeners somewhere out of sight, e.g. some o.9mm brass wire or 1/32" brass bar under the running plate but clear of the wheels and coupling rods.
richard i
Christmas is good for little but modeling. Tv is reruns etc. However, if you have to be away from home sometimes the present project can not travel so... It is pregrouping. Took three days to put together. Now I have the cattle wagon to run in a pregrouping rake as well as one to run in the grouping rake, ( thanks to Clive). Back to the main effort now I am back home.
