Cheers andy

The weathering on the BR standard was done with powders & a bit of dry brushing, but as you know mate im not happy with it and need to learn how to use an airbrush and try and copy your skills!

Cheers

Cheers Ben, here's an early Railroad 9F, just done with Powder and. Dry Brushed Enamels. I cut out the Plastic Coal and made a new insert for the Tender and then added Real Coal, I cut off the front steps from the front Bogie and mounted them under the Running Plate, made some front Steam Pipes from Brass Wire, added Cab Doors from some Black Card and fitted a Crew, it ran really sweet as well. I've just got the Railroad Evening Star and so that will be treated the same way but WITHOUT the heavy weathering.

Great work on the 9f andy.even more so that there wasnt an airbrush used on it!

That mucky browny colour looks spot on.

I actually bought a cheapish airbrush & compresser last week.

Ive been looking through a book by tim shackelton on weathering locos so im going to have a try soon when i get chance.

Cheers

Ben,

I have to agree with Andy mate, fantastic effort for first attempt - I'm frightened to try myself! I should have mentioned the section of track either side of hangman's bridge as well. Superb workmanship along the trackside my friend, and coupled to the backscene, very realistic! I would think that the light switch could be disguised with paint or possibly cut in some off-cuts of backscene so as to make the switch virtually disappear!

Kind regards,

Jock.

Hi jock, cheers for the kind comments, much appreciated.

Yeah think i'll have to disguise the light switch with an off cut of backscene, when I eventually get back over to the real location to take some photos.

Hangmans bridge was built into the surrounding hillside mate and used as access for a farmer.

Unfortunately dont have the space on that part of the layout to model wild boar fell,a backscene will have to be the next best thing.

Excellent layout Ben - those shots up the long drag are really atmospheric - you've etched the line at just the right height to give you some scenic headroom - as you probably spotted on Waverley I don;t have that luxury s we had to get the line over a set of stairs, so deck height is really 2 inches higher than would have been ideal,

You've done som great weathering - don;t forget BR pretty much stopped recruiting cleaners in the early diesel age, so filth really was the order of the day.

Havent had chance to do anything else on the layout recently but got another loco for it.

A proper S&C loco... Fowler 4f

Its the latest Hornby one,and bought it cheap, second hand.

Soon it will be show the airbrush for a bit of light weathering and given a crew & lamps.

Still no progress on the layout but ive have been improving a railroad 9f i have.

Removed the horrible front coupling and replaced it with screw link type.

Made some cab doors from plasticard to close down the gap from the cab to tender.

Also removed the horrible glazing from the cab which looks like double glazing on the model, and fiitted a crew & front lamp.

Then finally weathered using an airbrush with enamels to that heavily worked end of steam look.
