Airfix BR Brake Van to GNR(I) 20T Brake.

This old Airfix Brake Van, built decades ago, has been sitting on my window sill on route to being thrown out. The other day I took the notion to do something with it.  The GNR(I) 20T Brake was a possibility so I started shortening the chassis and removing the sides.  Patience use of a hair dryer and hot water meant I got most of it apart with little breakages.

The rebuild was by plasticard and while not totally accurate it was close enough to be a working model again.

I found the roof difficult to do but I think it will stick down even all round.

Painting and decals (if I can find any suitable) along with couplings will finish it off.

CIE Acrylonitrile Tank Container for Asahi chemical traffic between North Wall, Dublin and Ballina.

I’ve wanted a model of these for a long time and looked to see if there was an equivalent tank container in model form but the nearest I found was a 20ft Spider Tank.  I bought two from C-Rail but the tank was the only thing I could use from their kit and I even had to shorten it.

The rest of the build was by using plasticard.

Some fillers after a primer coat.

Any ideas as to colour, my best guess is the tank an off white/ light grey and supporting framework a red ochre?

The 4w flats used to carry these containers were specially repainted from the normal brown to all-over silver, which unlike the coaching stock of a generation earlier, they seemed to keep somewhat cleaner! Buffers, all the stuff round and between the wheels, the lot.

The containers were also a silver-grey colour, but the rectangular framing attached to the ends of the actual tanks were bright red.

Lettering was black on both the 4w wagon and the container, with the CIE "roundel" being the normal one for light surfaces - tan "broken wheel" with black lettering inside it.

Midland Great Western 1st Class Saloon 6-Wheel Coach (CIE livery)

My first go at building an Alphagraphix cardboard coach kit and it’s a learning curve.  The next one will be reinforced with thin plasticard rather than the millboard I used here.

I have no idea of what type of roof furniture was on these coaches and where it was placed.  A photograph of this 1st Class Saloon would be of great assistance if anyone can help.

Nice work. Here’s my first (and so far only) carriage build - an MGWR 6w coach I made from plasticard based on Roger’s kit. The roof furniture is taken from period photographs. Not a saloon but may give an idea re ventilators and lamps. The rectangle is a water tank.

Thanks Guys, if all goes to plan there will be more (hopefully better models) to make up a rake so their uniqueness is diminishing

Found these pictures on the web, they might be useful.
