At this stage it's a bit like building a house, when you have the walls up and the roof on you think you are nearly there but in reality you are only half way.

Still another four 900 Series to build and I'm still undecided on what liveries, GNR(I), CIE, UTA & NIR -help!

BUT Railcar bogie sides.

Rightly or wrongly I decided to use AEC Railcar bogie sides which were made originally by MTK.  Phoenix Paint how have the molds but they are nearly the end of their working life. I got 32 and there was a lot of extra whitemetal where it was not suppose to be.  This involved lots of cleaning time and I removed the bottom rod and widened the bogie to fit a 10' wheelbase using plasticard channel.  I also replaced to rod with a brass one.

It's such a delightful way to pass a winters evening or two.

Hi Kieran,

You clearly have the perseverance of a saint - as you say a great way to spend winter evenings.  Great work there!!  I presume the domestic authorities approved the use of the kitchen table and best tablecloth...

Nearly time for our excursion with Bleach Green  :)

See you soon,

Tom

Kirley,

I think we had a short discussion earlier in this tread re the Continental type corridor connectors on the BUT cars.

There is an excellent photo of these types in a current tread on Greek railways. It's titled "Some photos from the Pelopenese"; hope I've spelt that correctly !

It's in the first post.

I tried to take a snap myself of a coach in the Madrid railway museum a few weeks ago but as usual in such venues, the light is very poor. Greek sunlight is much better!

Hope this might be of some help.

Don't know how to do that.........shame on me!

Its in the Overseas Prototype section of the Overseas/Continental menu, where Irish railways are.

The guy who started the tread is Allegheny1600.

Hope you can track it down.

RAILCAR B

I've broken my golden rule by starting a new project before finishing my current one.  I came across a guy in England called Ian Sims who is a model bus builder but had produced a card model of the S&LNC Railbus B.  When it arrived I just had to complete it.  The model arrived looking like this.

I did a bit more work on the model before painting.

Painting and doing the interiors was next.  After some deliberation I went for the CIE livery.

Brian Osbourn at Branchlines recommended a Tenshodo motor with coupling rods.  Luckily there was a space underneath to hide the decoder.

Hope to post a video of it in action in due course.

Is this guy selling these as kits?

Also, can the Tenshodo motor bogies be bought with coupling rods?

I thought Railcar B might have raised your interest.  No, he makes them and supplies them with a Lima chassis or one of your choice.  Brian Osborn of Branchlines sells the Tenshodo motors and also an etch of coupling rods with connectors to fit them.

BUT progress continues.  Roof vents, light housings, making grab & door handles and finally the water pipes but I ran out of small handrail knobs so waiting on supplies battling through the Christmas post.

I'll not tell you how often ends were soldered, unsoldered and resoldered but I'm really glad I have it finished.

That's the end of model building for this year.
