Glover
That's a lot of good work there Kirley. Is that actually a mix of 900 and 600 units? The 600s had smaller windows at the cab end, in the first class section. Not showing my (limited) knowledge! Cheers, Glover
kirley
The BUT Railcars in primer are the 700 Series ( sometimes referred to as half cabs) which were all 2nd Class seating. The 900 had 12 1st Class and 40 2nd Class seating where as the 600 Series (AEC's) had again 12 1st Class but only 30 2nd Class seating. Confusing isn't it. Hunslet 102
Great finish to the year Kieran! Last year you finished with Railcars 6 & 7, this year with the BUT railcars and in between there was a lot of steam! Well done, great thread, looking forward to your 2017 builds. kirley
BUT 900 Series Railcars I always find it difficult to do the roofs and rounding the ends did not make it any easier. The method is fairly straightforward, cut a 'V' in the roof and fill with Isopon. Now for the fun bit, sanding it into shape. I have to shape the underneath to fit the front area. Still some tidying up to do but the worst is over. Edited April 2, 2017 by kirley

kirley
Primer coat applied, a major milestone reached on this build. But still loads of work still to do. Edited April 2, 2017 by kirley
Mike 84C
They are looking rather good Kieran, I have to admire your tenacity in batch building, I vowed never to do it again! finish one before I start the next! I do not envy you having to do all those interiors.
kirley
I have to admire your tenacity in batch building, I vowed never to do it again! finish one before I start the next! I do not envy you having to do all those interiors. It's the only way I can do it Mike, doing 8 one at a time would probably never be finished and once you do one you can use that knowledge on the others. 61666
Proper job, Kieran. Coaches are every bit as big a challenge as locos and the roof lines of driving trailers make them even harder, so very much like the way you have done yours.
kirley
BUT 700 Interiors Working out the first one always takes more time, the next three should be a quicker process. Still waiting on seats to arrive. Edited April 2, 2017 by kirley
leslie10646
"GNR Coal Wagons At the Bangor Show last April I picked up two lovely Provincial Wagons GNR Coal Wagon kits and I'm only getting round to building them now. They are only a 20 minute build with the painting etc taking longer. They are definitely too clean to be wholesome. " Heavens, Kieran, 20 minutes? I think I'll put that in my advertising to encourage those who think the kits may prove too hard!!!!! Dare I say it that although I like wagons that look as though they've just come out of the 'shop - the one weathered Loco Coal I own does look the business! Well done. Leslie How did you dig that one up Leslie, posted Aug 2015? Michael (your designer) does his wagon brake bits the same so after building a few and once you have everything prepared 20 mins will put it together. How about posting some pictures of your weathered wagons?
kirley
Lots and lots of hours working on the BUT's since the last post but finally the end is in sight, for the 700 Series. Roof are still to be attached and water pipes fixed in place and windscreen wipers added but have to test those engines first. Then the 900 series awaits Edited April 2, 2017 by kirley

Glover
Magnificent !! That's a serious amount of modelling. The GNR cream and blue takes me back to when I was a very small boy and seeing the GNR trains in Amiens St ( now Connolly) in Dublin. I also like the CIE green; can I ask what actual colour you used? Regards, Glover

NoelG
Very impressive. Prolific building Kieran and to a very high standard. In the future Richie may have to look over his shoulder. Do you print your own decals or buy from sources such as railtec, des, etc?
kirley
Do you print your own decals or buy from sources such as railtec, des, etc? Only had limited success in doing my own. I have built up a 'spare' box of decals from Silverfox, Railtec, SSM, Eric Robinson, Foxes and others. To get a 'special' from Railtec could take 6 mths now-a-days but SSM will it do ones in a week. Below is UTA No.s inside circles Des did for the 900 Series, made to measure. Edited April 2, 2017 by kirley
kirley
At last the BUT 700 Series Railcars finished. I borrowed the K15 coach from the AEC Set but still have build a Brake & Diner. A video of the BUT's in action is on my Layout page. Edited April 2, 2017 by kirley
