RMweb Premium Neil Posted December 15, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 15, 2014 I have it in my mind that at some stage Triang or Triang Hornby released a centre cab diesel shunter similar to this Fleischmann example, possibly in train sets only. Have I got to the stage where I'm imagining things or was such a model produced? Many thanks.
gordon s
Off hand the one that springs to mind would be the R254 Steeple Cab loco, but that had a pantograph on top. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRI-ANG-RAILWAYS-MODEL-No-R254-BR-0-4-0-STEEPLE-CAB-ELECTRIC-LOCO-/301167608198

shortliner
Neil - I have a thought, noodling around at the back of my brain , that Joueff or Palitoy might have done such a thing, waaaaay back
RMweb Premium Neil Posted December 15, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 15, 2014 Thanks chaps, but it's definitely not the steeple cab electric electric I had in mind, nor come to mention it the Lima centre cab shunter, but something far more like the Fleischmann example above. RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted December 15, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 15, 2014 I must admit that I'd have opted for the electric steeple cab as well, but if it's a diesel shunter, then I'm afraid that I'm stumped...

andyman7
Do you mean this one? By far the rarest of the cheap Triang-era set locos:

BernardTPM
Introduced for junior train sets in 1969 IIRC. A really oddball thing for them to do, though, a Swedish design. The coaches are odd too, having coil pedestal suspension. The seats were moulded as part of the floor.

sp1
Red is the commonest livery, but it was also released in far more limited numbers of yellow with a blue cab roof, and in blue with a black roof. I remember my brother having the yellow one! It came with the 'hollow' yellow tanker seen in the set above (I remember that as it survived in our toy cupboard long after the rest had gone): I don't recall what else was in the set. Date wise the nearest I can get would be between 1968-about 1972 - over how many years were the sets produced?
