73203 02.09.09 The one that didn't make it. Unfortunately it was in poor mechanical shape, and had already been stripped of much of its guts. If it had survived a few more years it may well have been taken up for a 'super-ED' rebuild, but it wasn't to be.

73136 14.06.13 After a short spell in Green while serving with 'Transmart' the loco was absorbed into the GBRf fleet. This meant another repaint. Fortunately 73136 had been in fairly good shape and required only superficial preparation. The loco is seen being prepared for another trip to the paintbrush factory.

post-31978-0-80041800-1499616929_thumb.jpg

73136 14.06.13 Missing a cab windscreen, which had been used to replace one on another GBRf 73 which had been damaged. Windscreens were in short supply at the time, and eventually a new batch were ordered for further use. 73136 would shortly have its missing eye replaced.

Several weeks later and 73136 is rolled out after its latest paintjob.

I think that the Inspection Saloon was the one which became 'Caroline'

Don't think so - Caroline was a Hastings DEMU buffet, and was the SR General Manager's Saloon.

The one in the pic is a pre-BR coach, possibly DS70155? (number vaguely remembered after all these years - how does that work?!)

I must admit I’ve developed quite a soft spot for the old 73 recently, never really given them a 2nd glance but they are actually a quite simple attractive loco

I’m lucky to have driven most of the GBRf 73/9 and they are an impressive little beast, certainly go like stink in multi with just 4 or 5 coaches, I’ve yet to be passed out on them and I don’t know if and when that is likely to happen but if it doesn’t then I’ve had a go, also driven ‘traditional’ 73138 which wasn’t quite so quick off the mark dragging 3 DVTs and a 67!

Dear all,

Just a quick note to say I have subscribed as a 'Gold' user to allow me to up-load my photos to galleries, and have started putting what pictures I have labelled under the various headings.  Most are mediocre at best, but as I said in the galleries' introduction, I hope the information is of interest and use at least to a few.  It saves clogging these message threads with images.  Thanks.

For me, the trouble with the galleries is that they don't allow for this kind of collaborative effort with contributions from everyone.

Also, I'm not sure that a thread entitled "Class 73 Photos" can be said to be clogged up with images.

Difficult to get the right horse for the course. Some people use the galleries to store photos and then link them into various threads, so the photos are only stored once anyway.

O drat.  I was trying to get a balance between getting the information in the photos 'out there', but their rarely being up to the standard of shots one sees in these threads.  I assumed it was 'bad form' to post three-dozen shots, and appear to dominate a page or two (although I could 'like' such whole threads of others' myself).  It also occurred to me after posting the message, I might be 'showing off' by drawing attention to the folders, which was not the intention.  May one not 'comment' on individual pictures, like Flickr, in the galleries?

I think I had better lay off this inter-web for a while, and retire to my library with a pot of tea.  It is all rather more complicated than I first thought.  :)   Thanks for your help, and best wishes to you all.

Noooo, don't do that!

Sorry if I came over a bit "back seat moderator" there, that wasn't my intention at all. Didn't think you were showing off either - there's some interesting stuff over there.

I was just trying not to lose the collaborative aspect of person A posting a pic, person B commenting, and person C coming in with another related photo, which is really hard to do with the galleries, which tend to be a bit like self-contained silos, and don't seem to have the visibility of the forum threads.

If you're worried about clutter, you could always post your best gallery photos in this thread, and then say "there's more over here" with a link to your 73 gallery folder?

Having had a look, they are definitely of interest, and I certainly wouldn't call them mediocre.

They are from a period that I wish I had a time machine to go back to, with my digital camera in tow, and take 1000's of pictures. Definitely don't give up posting them.

I get what you mean, but all of these photo threads are there to show your pictures. Irrespective of perceived quality (I have posted a couple which wouldn't be anywhere near publishable quality), each of them are a record worth sharing...many never to be repeated. Even if you link a few from your gallery, it would be good to see them linked to the thread. You posted a fair few interesting shots on the 3rd Rail EMU thread.

I'd be more than happy to see this, and other picture threads, clogged up with pictures...so clog away!

I didn’t even know we had galleries!

Get the pics up here, I suspect like myself a lot of users just visit the forum page and don’t really look at the extras such as blogs and galleries (and are most likely missing out on some good extra content!)

Dear eastwestdivide and colleagues,

Sorry, I did not mean it in a 'sulk and flounce' way.  I just meant to reconsider the 'site etiquette', as in my concerns listed.  I like the suggestion of posting my better shots here, and will have a bash at working out how to 'direct' to related ones in the Gallery folders.

I realised last night my first (S.N.C.F.) photos were taken at the age of nine, so perhaps the quality is allowed to be a little 'sub-standard'.  Just wish I had not worn specs!  Thanks again for all your kind words and consideration, and I will get on with scanning and labelling the rest of the C126 shots a.s.a.p.
