milocomarty
Arranged and re-arranged the foamboard mock-ups on this piece of the wharf. Pretty happy with the view of the rooflines now. Pretty funny how a innitial design changes over the year..Like the peak throughs and started on building and finishing the mock-ups by simply cladding them..

milocomarty
Thanks guys ! Cladding, painting more cladding..aditional weathering with some Ammo stuff, like this alot. More forgiving as acrylic washes.. the small shed just needs a light drybrush. Lots to be done before the Leipzig show..
milocomarty
Been fooling around with this enamel stuff, Try to find the difference between AK interactive, Mig productions and Ammo by Mig. Besides the slightly different color the one is a bit more paint like as the other. But I'm very pleased with the way they work. Started on 2 AMS boxcars to weather, the one with the enamel washes and streaking grimes the other with Vallejo washes. Although I do like the acrylic Vallejo washes I must say I'm impressed with the enamel washes and grimes. They are more forgiving, To much can be removed with a damp brush with thinner and a rag. Amo by Mig and AK interactive washes and streaking grimes First coat of Vallejo dark brown acrylic wash Greenish decay in wood, slimy grime dark AK interactive, almost the same color as Ammo by Mig but slightly thinner..
milocomarty
Well more of the washes and streaks, this enamel based paint from our military modelers. First of all I do use a lot of paper in my builds. Most roof material is paper. And well to prime all of these with acrylics. To lazy for that. So I tested the use of pigments and enamels. First the base is a Canson MIteintes pastel paper. A good base for the use of pastels so it had to be good for pigments to as is a pastel pigment with a binder. The roof with the beams on it the pigments are fixed with Vallejo pigment fixer, acrylic based, the other roof I used the enamel based MIG productions pigment fixer and after drying it holds pretty good. AAfter that I made a start with the grimes and streaks, washed some of the roofcaps with trackrust and came over with a couple of rust streaks. Added some greens to, slimy grime dark and one very usefull is the rainmarks. Both from AMMO and AK leave a nice fine withish streaking effect. Although it's almost like working with acrylics when paper based. The paint tends to suck into the paper.. My dirty, messy bench with this enamel based stuff Roof ith slimy grime, rainmarks and streaking grimes The same materials but rust washes and streaks used on the roofcaps.. Closer look..
milocomarty
Couldn't resist to use a couple of these AK, Ammo and Mig products on the deck of the wharf and the cobblestones. First some layers with pigments fixed with a pigment fixer, Additional some washes and streaking effect followed by a drybrush with titanium buff..left side is done so far the rght side needs to be finished...dunno if it's a bit to much..but started it so I have 4 foot more..
chaz
Clicking "like" hardly seems adequate. This railway just gets better and better. Superb work on the cobbles and the pier deck. Chaz
milocomarty
Thanks Chaz ! Well gues I'm finished with the first part of the deck, after touching all the boards ends wth a A/I wash and AK slimy grime I gave the entire deck another wash with an A/I mixture of black, brown and sepia..After a drybrush with acrylic titanium buff dark it still hadn't the old weathered look I wanted and it looked quit funny with the hard drybrushed edges. Gave it again a wash with an A/i solution of grey / walnut and black..happy with the result now, just some minor rust touch ups along the track..after this another 4 foot, think I'm gonna shoot a video doin it..

milocomarty
With some subtile rust on the boards along the track I do think this piece of the wharf is done and I can move on to the other 4 foot. Also made a start on mosses and grass inbetween the cobbles..no grasses yet but they follow..Al the weathering products in a picture except for the titanium buff dark acrylic paint and the A/I washes I use. One is 150ml alcohol with 5ml sepia, 5ml brown and 5ml black Daler Rowney FW acrylic ink. The other almost the same but with Sennelier walnut and grey, they are shellack based inks and need a constant thorough shake of the bottle. The can be diluted with water but badly with alcohol..
milocomarty
Time for the messy static grass job, adding 1 and 2mm fibers between the cobbles..
chaz
The grass between the cobble stones is very convincing. When you do this how are you making sure that the grass is only between the stones rather than on them? Is it a matter of putting glue only in the interstices? milocomarty
I use fine tip bottle..looks like it has the tip of a pencil on it.. With the next show coming up at the end of September I'm working on finishing all the weathering on the buildings. Touched up all the boards ends with an alcohol/ink solution with after that a drybrush maybe more a kinda white wash to soften it.. started on the mossy greens on the lower parts using Ammo slimy grime dark..sometimes I think it's a bit to green and mybe it needs a filter of some kind..but wich one?
milocomarty
Well more try and errors to achieve this moist lower sides of the coal dealer..after the first coat yesterday with Ammo slimy grime dark I added another with Ammo slimy grime light followed by streaks of Ammo darkbrown for green. On one building I added a coat of factory grey Mig pigments..fixed with odourless thinner..not certain wich one I'm more satisfied with..

I think the fine tipped bottle is one used by electronic cigarette users for filling their vape pipes. I have a couple here which I purchased from our local electronic cigarette shop in Boscombe. It is a squeezable plastic bottle with a very thin metal tube in the end for applying small amounts of glue, very useful. Loconuts

milocomarty
Thanks guys !! Made a start on additional weathering of the big wharf module. Touching up the boards ends with a alcohol/ink wash followed by Ammo slimy grime dark, boards around the track areweathered wih MIG pigments russian earth and industrial city dirt. Inbetween some streaking effects on the backwall of the coal bunker. Video is running along to shoot a short tutorial about weathering this wharf..
milocomarty
Almost done with weathering the deck of the 4 foot wharf on this module. After adding limy grime to the board ends I let it dry for a day. Today a light drybrush with a acrylic titanium buff dark. Followed by an alcohol /ink wash. Grey / Walnut / Black..now I just have to touch up the boards ends along the track with some rust streaks and washes and I can concentrate myself on the other buildings.
