Network rail"s "Track machines" Tampers ect...

Recommended Posts

I went for a walk earlier today past Marsden train station and found this machine sat stabled in the station. I couldn't tell you what was its working but as there are/was engineering works along the Huddersfield line I thought it must be to do with that. Photos below.

Thanks Chaps for the information :locomotive:

ive got frend on here spraying me up Colas 60 :senile:

so might have to have the new helmet done :sungum:

Sounds like a plan! I've got Hornby 60048 in EWS livery DCC sound which is just about obsolete now unless I park it in a siding and say it's in storage.  You will have to post the result of your respray somewhere on here.

Just being curious. There are all these different track machines, presumably with many different cab layouts. So who drives them? They will need both route knowledge and know how to drive the particular machine.

096 & 047 both had the new style logo applied when they were refurbished, presumably the rest will follow suit.

Cheers,

Phil.

everything is having the new 'oscar' logo, class 70s included, they are getting changed as and when

Hello Colin I am sure that someone else on here will provide you with a more detailed answer but I have worked on DR79231 in the photo below in 2011 at Crewe.  DR79231 is a grinder train that re profiles the rail surface, travelling at slow speeds whilst the grinder wheels are set up to do their business.  The crew thought one of the generator engines had a misfire but it turned out to just be a blowing exhaust gasket.  The crew on this train stayed with it most of the time and could do anything from drive the train from location to location, perform their own maintenance i.e changing grinding wheels, cleaning out all the dust and metal swarf that's produced and obviously operate the controls when the trains is actually grinding.  I am sure that one of the blokes on the train said they sometimes travel with a conductor as some of the time they must not have the route knowledge.

A small selection from me.  UK prototypes only (as befits this section) - better not get me started on overseas variants.

Back to the grind - literally.

This Loram rail grinding seven unit set (DR79251 - DR79257) was parked in a siding at Bishops Stortford yesterday afternoon (where I'm advised it has been for around a week).

I don't think it has been mentioned, but I'd recommend this website http://www.ontrackplant.com/ for anything and everything to do with track machines.
