RMweb Gold big jim Posted July 23, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 23, 2020 So am I right when I say different gauge as the 2nd picture isn’t Bangor north wales so I assume it’s Northern Ireland on wider tracks?

STONECOLDSMILE1882
Network Rail’s Robel 6U88 MMT Set 8 (DR97508 – DR97608 – DR97808) was found this morning in fairly unfamiliar surroundings, at Bluebell Railway’s Horsted Keynes station, platform 2. Very interesting machine and great to see it here in day light as it normally found away from public view.

RMweb Gold Tony Teague Posted July 6, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 6, 2021 Only just discovered this interesting thread; there seem to be a lot of images missing - perhaps because of copyright reasons. On which basis, I confirm that all of those that follow are my own originals (& copyright me!). First three are all seen passing Daventry International Railfreight Terminal (DIRFT), on the Northampton loop: Loram C44 rail grinding unit DR79401 - 4. Colas tamper DR73930 sounded like it had a square wheel somewhere! Network Rail New Measurement train headed by 43 290 This one is on the WCML south of Rugby during an engineer's possession: Three Plasser & Theurer Self Propelled Heavy Duty Twin Jib Track Re-Layers hooked onto the back of an engineer's spoil train. Windhoff MPV Master & Slave RHTT Rail Head Treatment Train DR 98914 & DR 98964 whilst reversing at Eastleigh Station. The next two were both seen (on different dates) parked in the Colas engineering sidings at Ely Station: They are both Plasser & Theurer 08-4x4/4S-RT Tampers, DR 73908 above, DR73906 below: Lastly another RHTT seen at Hollingbourne Station in Kent: This is DR 98931 + DR 98981 Tony 8

Great concept, shame there wasn’t input from those who actually work on the track when it designed and signed off.

Michael Hodgson
The Windhoff MPVs for which a railhead treatment set is available RTR are supposed to be "multi-purpose vehicles". Do we know what other purposes these sets are used for and what other modules are carried outside leaf fall season? It would certainly make sense for a model to be able to switch the containers and run different trains, and containers could be relatively low cost to produce. The Viesmann tamper that actually moves like a tamper is an excellent model, even if it is HO and a rather expensive product with a niche market. I can't help thinking the Robel Mobile Maintenance Train would be a similarly good prototype for an enterprising manufacturer, especially if provided with outward-opening side walls in the last car, perhaps worked by servos under DCC control.
