In fact, I'm hoping for some input from both Ted and Snowy when I start building Woolney.

Morning all.

I'm afraid I have nothing new to report.  However, here is an old Norman Lockhart image by way of a reminder.

I wish I could weather mine half as good as that!

Morning Mike.

Thanks for the kind words. It just takes practice and continuing experimentation. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it doesn't.  Either way, you learn something.

Hi Rob,

Yes, but it's plucking up the courage to dive in!

Have to agree with you there, mustering the necessary to attack something that looks perfect and that you just paid £100 for is a little nerve wracking.

I am having the same problems. I am countering them by weathering parts of the layout as I build it, followed by wagons etc.

I have a few locos I have bought to modify or for spares and a couple of bodies only.

My intention is to practice on them, make notes on what I use where as I go along and of course crib heavily on what everyone else is doing.

That way the learning process should at least be a bit less sweary....

You don't even have to use an old model.  A piece of plasticard, scribed, with a couple of bits of angle strip and there is a van side to practice on.  Don't scribe it and it's a steel 16t wagon.
I'm sure Rob will agree, start very lightly and and more light passes until you're happy.  Also remember the 3ft rule... ;)

And what do you use that for, scoring the planks?

Al.

No, I'd use a scribe for that...

Or if no scribe, then a monk.

It is nerve wracking. As you say, its simply the fear of making a horse's arse of it all.......says the sheep who weathered a loco only for all the colours to be lost when the varnish was applied.........

Try things on an old model first, or as Stubbers says, a bit of plasticard. Remember, I practised the wood stuff on a piece of Wills sheet.
