A long way from the Isle of Wight, but I was there the other weekend and your new station building reminds me so much of this place, a lot of which is still standing. There were a lot of sheep about too.

Horderley, Bishop's Castle Railway. Back in 1935, they put the ram into ramshackle. Or rather, at Eaton, two stations up, the stationmaster's goats ate all the posters off the boards. Partial to the glue apparently.

I suspect that your static flock applicator would have a hernia...

Morning Rob.

That looks cowing lush........

How sheepy modellable is that !

Mmmmm. Future light railway project logged.

Morning LB and thank you.

Shalfleet played its part in providing plenty by way of inspiration and will continue to do so.

Sorry to ask a daft question (or two) Rob, but are your two Terriers the most recent issue from Hornby? Also, when refering to "pedigree" Terriers, are folks refering to the Rails version?

On a totally different topic, the recent flurry of sheep-related names suggested for your layout have reminded me of an anecdote told me by my late father, in particular the suggestion of "Tupton"...

So, once you have completed your Isle of Wight micro, might I request you head northwards to the 'grim' NW territories, hunting ground of the frugal Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway, and work your micro magic on, perhaps, a paper mill or bleach works? As a native of Bury, I am on the doorstep of the East Lancs Railway and one station on the line has a perfect - and for the first time in your portfolio of ovine-named layouts, prototypical - sheep-related name for you to use 'straight out of the tin', so to speak...

I refer, of course, to Ramsbottom

Or, as my father told me the guard used to call out as the train pulled into said station, "Tupsarse"!

I thank ewe!

Steve S

Hi Steve,

The ERNs are the latest from Hornby. To be honest aside from a bit of pipeage, I see little difference between these and the 'pedigree' Terriers from Rail aside from £30 or so. I'm quite happy with the level of detail offered by Hornby. That said, I wouldn't totally rule out a Rail Terrier. Never say never.

Ramsbottom does sound 'oop north' and whilst urban does appeal, it would be further South, Bristol area to be precise. Ex-Midland. That said, the Aspinall saddle tanks and 0.6.0 tender locos have a certain aesthetic appeal.

But Isle of Wight it is for now.

Rob.

Thenks Alex (see what I did there?). I thought nobody was going to pick that one up.

After we had finished chuckling about that, CTMK reminded me of the time that she thought that she was getting rather special service at the dentists, when the Spanish dentist said, 'I am going to geeve you a feeling!'

I was at Ramsbottom only last week - well further down the River Irwell.. Peaceful spot until this hulk roared past

I am looking forward (not unusual on this thread) to seeing how you progress on this layout, Rob. My eldest daughter went to school on the island (not in the 1930s!) so I have many memories from my visits there, and it will be interesting to see how you represent the different pace of life there and the not-quite-run-down-but-getting-there atmosphere.

Anticipation.

Looks like you had a lovely time!

For those who aren't aware, at both ends of the line are some rather super watering holes, Bufferstops at Rawtenstall and Trackside at Bury. Both are in the stations themselves, and you can take your real ale or quality cider (or other beverage of choice) and sit on the platforms watching the trains roll in and out.

Except last weekend, that is. Bank Holiday weekend. When both were shut due to 'staffing issues'.* A lot of thirsty punters and lost trade for both establishments when they really needed the income. :sad_mini:

What has this to do with this thread, you cry? Ramsbottom does not have a station based baaaa

HOURS OF FUN!

Morning all.

Somewhat subdued at Chateau Sheep this morning.

Post second jab which was administered by the vet yesterday afternoon and to be fair I'm not well. First was reasonably okay. This one less so and a little bit under the weather as a result.

Comms are therefore difficult at present.

Rob.

Sorry to hear you're crook mate...this may cheer you up..

Join the 2nd  jab, blues club, my first one I hardly noticed, but the 2nd one dragged me down for nearly a week.

Interesting how it varies. My first left me with a headache for about 12 hours, (sorted with Paracetamol), and fatigue for about 36. Second, no headache but fatigue was worse and lasted twice as long.

In both cases, there was no sign of side effects until 3-4 hours after receiving the jab - I thought I'd got away with it after the first one!

Hope you are feeling better soon, Rob.

John

A while back I posted some pictures of long abandoned stations in Leicestershire. If you fancied a trip to a little known and surprisingly rural part of the Midlands, then perhaps a fictitious former LNWR (Ex Ashby & Nuneaton Joint Railway.) goods branch to here....?

We used to live not far from Sheepy Magna. The village shop was called the Sheepy Stores.

Nothing to do with sheep but I reckon that Norton-juxta-Twycross would look good on a station running-in board.

It certainly would. Or from the the other side of the county, Croxton Kerrial (pronounced Crow Sun.)

Something ex M&GN in that case.

There were plenty of real stations with odd names in the county anyway with names such as Ratby, Grace Dieu, Zouch, Stoke Golding, Kirkby Muxloe...

So more must be better!
