Speaking of Tupton. Anyone fancy one of those 009 Baldwin WD prairie tanks?

You also get to name your terminus "Butts". :D

Sadly all that is left of this wonderfully atmospheric scene is one overgrown bridge abutment.

In theory most DCC throttles have an emergency stop button. But it sometimes needs programming to do what it says on the tin!

I can’t blame DCC entirely, operator error was also a contributing factor

Tupton was on the Midland Railway but actually named Clay Cross. Very odd!

The railway went under the town of Clay Cross in a tunnel, so the nearest they could get the station was at Tupton.

It did indeed and if you clamber onto the tunnel mouth, the turrets on top of it are actually hollow. It's a pity that you can't see it from the train anymore. There used to be a shop built hard up to one of the ventilator shafts at the side of the A61, which resulted in an odd shaped building.

There were quite a few stations in that area come to think of it. Tibshelf, Heath and Grassmoor on the GC, Clay Cross, Blackwell and Stretton on the Midland. All gone of course!

I think you will find the Ashover "Baldwin" tanks - and the Bachmann 009 models - are / were 4-6-0Ts - ex British Army. There were a few Baldwin "Prairie" tanks in UK - ex US Army - including a few at the Penrhyn Slate Quarry, but not very successful as replacements for Hunslets "Charles", "Linda" and "Blanche" which long outlasted the Baldwins.

And yes, there will be sheep puns.........

Apologies for being late to the party, but I've only just read the thread. I Would Baa-ton upon Humber, Lampeter, and Dover Merino fit the bill?

Steve
