In relation to said diesel, I can do no better than quote from Kernow's website.

Mini-history - Copyright Kernow Model Rail Centre / Simon Bendall

New from Swindon Works in October 1958, D2028 was first allocated to Cambridge before moving briefly to March six years later, by when the wasp stripes had been applied. The mid 1960s saw it based at Peterborough New England and Stratford for around eight months each before heading to the Southern Region at Bournemouth in May 1966. This saw it used over the Weymouth Quay line for a time while the shunter’s final transfer was to Eastleigh in March 1969. Withdrawn at the end of that year, it was scrapped in stages at Doncaster Works in 1971/72, still in BR green.

I guess this is a preservation era running session after your run-in with Lord Cack @NHY 581 .

Indeed, Chris. I have three of these little chaps, all of which will need distressing to varying degrees.

I need to make a couple of tarpaulin rail thingies as well and may well add a tender weatherboard for variety.

I have just finished an SR brake van based on the Cambrian kit, I have at least two photos of them working in East anglia, one at Upwell in the 60s, the other is at Cromer Beach around 1957 so your photo is prototypical.

Unskirted 03s / 04s ran on Yarmouth and Ipswich quays in the 60s.

You go for it.

Evening Martyn.

Thank you. This little slice  will hopefully provide just such  a flavour of a bucolic East Anglian backwater.

I've got a selection of stock which should be fairly typical.......

Evening Rob.

It is and that is definitely a good thing.

The one thing lacking from earlier ideas was enthusiasm or to put it another way, conviction that all was good and right.

Project X differs considerably in that respect.

I'm quite taken with it to be honest..........

Must have been the bike. These girls seemed happy to see me and my camera. If you ever worried about getting spotty bits when painting your sheep don't worry, here are your prototypes. Perhaps they got caught in the cross fire of a paint-ball fight.

Rob looking at the track layout for Project X it does look remarkably similar to Iain Rice's Fen Drove 2 in his Cameo book. He does have a wharf in it and it is set in GER territory.

Evening Alan,

Fen Drove II is more complex . I looked at this when I was contemplating my own W&U adventure.

20210808_212709-01.jpeg.f09bcef3bbe22d24117cd373cc2f4741.jpeg

Project X was directly inspired by a snippet from another of Iain's plans for Orford.

There are similarities between the two  which is perhaps inevitable given the fact they come from the  same author.

My take will not have a wharf however.

Rob.

Evening all.

A bit of a nothing day today therefore little by way of a meaningful update.

A couple of lightweight jobs were attempted but it rapidly became evident that Cack, Lord God of Mayhem and Chaos had visited himself upon me.

The warning was heeded and having narrowly missed making a horse's arse of the seemingly simple task I was attempting, I decided deferment to another day was the wiser course of action.

That said, the trains did come out to play. Even that was fraught with danger when one of the wires from the Combi snapped. Once repairs were effected then normal service resumed with me safe in the knowledge that my earlier decision was correct.

If nothing else, here is a glimpse of Project X in diesel mode......

I looked at the plan for Orford a number of times as a possible terminus for my line but in mirror image with the buffer stops on the left and no spur to the docks. It's a very well thought out little plan.

one would hope a bit more than just a tad. Although when we had Soays come to the Forest of Dean they did look rather different. Totally foxed the Army during the Foot and Mouth. They were searching for any still roaming freely but didn't seem to notice the Soay. They did however keep coming low over our geese in the paddock in their helicopter so I think whiteness must have been one to the characteristics they were searching for.
