Well, to be fair, as I said to my French teacher: It's not  completely wrong. I did get 23%, so it's only 77% wrong.

Which is why I did Geography O Level instead.

I used to tell my kids when holidaying in Wales that "araf" meant "welcome" in Welsh, and that the locals were so pleased to see visitors/tourists that they painted it on their roads so you felt welcome wherever you drove!

Thought I'd leave off telling them about holiday homes in Wales being burnt down in the 70s, as it rather spoilt the story! :laugh_mini2:

Wasn't it Not The Nine O'Clock News that had an 'advert' :

"Come home to a real fire - buy a holiday cottage in Wales!"

When I lived there, every rural road had the words "Slow Araf" painted on in four foot letters.

An Araf might be slow, but I never got to see one.

Maybe I was going too fast?

Is an Araf related to a giraffe? If so it was probably camouflaged so that was probably why you didn't see any.

Both 9635 and 9487 were Swansea locos and display the relevant shed codes but 9487 later moved to Newton Abbot.

Not sure on 9635's movements and if it ever escaped from Swansea. (My apologies to Keef). Again happy for any clarity on this.

At this rate, perhaps I shoud start seeking out copies of Irwells Pannier papers of which certain ones are a bit scarce I believe.

I happened upon my copies and according to the Pannier Papers 9635 was always English…at Tyseley from new until moving to Exeter in 1962 and Taunton in 1963, from

where it was withdrawn.

Possibly, but I'd say you're more likely to get a 94XX in the south of the Principality.

Mathematically correct but as Salop had half a dozen of them for some years they could have got to the place where Rod is looking to play with operate one

Morning all.

9635 is on an extended jog around the The Improvised Table Top Improving Engine System or T.I.T.T.I.E.S  for short.

9487 is standing by for his turn. I also have a W4 Peckett to dismantle and another to give a run to.

Could be a busy day................

87DD shed code?

Indeed it was. Here it is in from their 1980 Not the Nine O'clock News book. I seem to remember it was based on an advert of the time about coming home to a real coal fire (rather than a coal effect electric one). How times change. . . . . . .

Evening all.

The wind has truly been knocked out of my sails this evening.

The only image I can think to post is the only bit of weathering I have ever done for someone else.

It was a pleasure to do.

Must admit when I saw the thread earlier I had to do a double take. Awful news. One of life's nice blokes and a fine modeller.

I suspect that those pearly gates will suddenly have acquired some weathering.

RIP Mick.
