Even at this point Project X is quite visually satisfying Rob.
Having not been around on here for a previous build I’m curious how you operate points when they’re mounted on an IKEA shelf?

Morning Jay.

No smoke and mirrors here. The points are digital = Mk 1 Pokey Finger.

I work in the basis that if I manually uncouple then there's no issue in manually operating the points.

Funnily enough despite having shown the other layouts at a number of exhibitions, no one has ever commented adversley.

I've had a  few "oh, that's how you do it" .......

I have always maintained that my layouts are 'bottom rung' jobs. Anyone can  knock these up from readily available bits and bobs. They're simple and straightforward.

I did contemplate using Caboose Industries ground throws  and in theory have enough to do it but I can't find them..........I've found one of the four I know I have but as to the whereabouts of the other three your guess is as good as mine.

I made the mistake of tidying up the parts box a few months ago.................

So, for now, pokey finger it is.

Rob.

Love that!
Well that makes things very uncomplicated. I assume that you’re relying on point switch blade contact for electrical continuity?

As an aside, a reminder on my phone reminds me that I should be heading to Wells tomorrow for Railwells............

An in other news, I have had a chat about our Small Cardiff Show which some of you fine fellows go to a lot of trouble to get to at the end of January each year.

Regretably,  it will not be going ahead next year.

However, there may be something brewing for February in nearby Penarth which will be of a similar persuasion. I'll post any details if this develops further.

Nothing too complicated but I did have a bit of a headfart last night when installling temporary sparks to test the ensemble.

A misplaced isolating fishplate............I shall say no more

As Chris puts it so well.......TSE.

Thanks for the answers Rob - I look forward to seeing X progress!

Are any exhibitions happening at all this year now?
All I’ve seen is an O gauge event at the SVR in a couple of weeks.

I think SVR is this weekend..some shows do appear to be on..

I've had an email saying the Great Electric Train Show, run by Hornby Magazine and to feature Pete Waterman's 64 ' layout is definitely on the first weekend in October.

I am booked for Taunton RailEx in October with Bleat.  Nothing thus far cancelling me.

Excellent - a day out beckons! I might even get a ride on a GWR Castle HST.

I think Cheltenham is happening the following weekend as well..

You are right. Le Kepi is Gendarmerie issue. I acquired it in 2003 whilst working with a company of Gendarmes ( amongst other nationalities) at one of their training areas called St Astier, which if I recall correctly is Bordeaux ish. I just recall a very long drive and it was very hot throughout our stay.
