Today saw the Greater Anglia stand-by set - the old Pretendalino - enter service on a test run to Colchester and back. It will shortly enter full service and will work it's first train - this depends on requirements.

Hi Das,

Thanks for posting.

Do the DVT buffers have some kind of plastic cover? Or have they been painted?

Also, did you get any shots of the logos on the coach sides?

Cheers

Ben A.

Hi Ben,

The buffers are gold - or brass - coloured, painted as far as I could tell.

No detail photos, it was passing me at about 60 mph and the weather was freezing (and snowing),

cheers,

I tried Ben - not easy when it's passing at 60mph ! I think they are the standard logos.

Hi Das,

The shot of the logo is pretty impressive for a train passing at 60!

I see the coach bodysides still have those odd little grey arrows - I always thought they were a little pointless as they hardly show up anyway!

Cheers

Ben A.

Hi Ben,

If I'd have had a bit more angle/room I'd have caught it, to be honest the buffet threw me, it didn't look right as it was approaching and for (now) obvious reasons - it was a ringer.

Once it enters passenger service I will be getting lots of photos of all the vehicles.

Now if only the MML would run 90 + MkIII + DVT when the electrification is finished.... oh for a proper loco hauled train.

I fear we'll end up with various clapped out 350s

You should be so lucky! Voyagers and Meridians should convert quite easily to electrification.

350's would be a good choice- and likely to be less clapped out than loco and stock options. Nobody really knows how the electric stock cascade merry go round will pan out....

Not that I know much about modern stock, but, if the 350's are the things that trundle at a great rate of knots up and down the southern end of the WCML, I'd rather have one of them than a voyager any day, far more comfortable IMHO.
