ESU 2015

Recommended Posts

ESU have released their new catalogues for 2015.

See here http://www.esu.eu/download/kataloge/

From a DCC side of things there is a new Loksound V4 L size of decoder set between the 'OO' V4 and the V4 XL decoder. Mainly aimed at the O gauge market it may help size wise as well but looking at it, it needs an adapter plate so height could be a problem.

Will have a closer look and report back.

Andy,

If you read the description you will see that the Loksound L V4 will be supplied with the adaptor plate, but you can buy additional adaptor plates.

If you look at the illistration on page 2 of the new items catalogue http://www.esu.eu/fileadmin/download/brochures/2015/52943_ESU_Neuheiten_2015_ESU-KG_DE_Auflage_I_eBook.pdf you will see that the decoder goes in to the adapter plate upside down so that together they take up not much more space than the height of the decoder itself. What is unusual is that ESU seem to have invented a totally new, to me anyway, 38 pin mount/interface, so the decoder can only be used with the adapter plate, or has anyone seen this type of interface elsewhere.

There is also a new 8 Ohm rectangular speaker.

EDIT: Also looking at the 2015 price list there is a new item "41000 - Universal coupler, for cars (carriages), Gauge H0, 10 pcs" due to be released in the first Quarter of this year.

The continental manufacturer Piko appear to have done a deal with ESU for their own version of the hopefully soon to be released Mobile Control II. The Piko version, called "SmartControl", comes with an interface box , the "SmartBox", that has the usual ESU style external  housing as used on the ECoSBoost and the Dynamis ProBox http://www.piko-shop.de/index.php?vw_type=artikel&vw_id=19156 Piko seem to have written their own software for the MC2 handset. So I was expecting ESU to release their own version to replace the Navigator and compete with the Roco Z/z21. The Piko Smartcontrol is due for release in the 2nd Quarter of the year, and is priced at EUR399. Additional Piko handsets can be bought for EUR349. Smartcontrol is DCC only.

The ESU Engineering Edition new E94 H0 loco looks superb, comes with Sound and has powered raising and lowering of the pantographs.
