edcayton
Am I going totally mad? I'm sure I remember an SVR gala with lots of BR 2-6-4 tank loco's but can't find it anywhere. Can anybody help? Psychiatrists need not apply. Ed
LMS2968
While I can't remember the date, yes, that's how it happened.
RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted January 28, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 28, 2015 Yes, it was fun, if a bit odd passing the same class everywhere.
Colinagreen
I think it was around 1997/1998 but it was good seeing them lined up at Bridgnorth Shed.
bike2steam
Yes, it was fun, if a bit odd passing the same class everywhere. Just squint your eyes and imagine your somewhere like West Horndon on the old LT&S in the late 50's - ah memories.

edcayton
Thanks, but that isn't the all-4MT Gala I was thinking of. Ed
Bulleidnutter
September gala 1999. I am just going off http://locoperformance.tripod.com/edition28/severnvalley.htm for the dates.
edcayton
Thanks, yeah that would seem right. Can't find any photo's though. Perhaps having all the same class put photographers off? Ed
Bulleidnutter
There was a photo on the SVR news for winter 1999/2000 with all 5 tanks lined up at Bridgnorth. Having searched flickr and other photo sites. There doesnt seem to be many photos of the weekend.
martinT
I hate to say it but this was a very boring Gala! I only managed to stick it for the Saturday, and on the Sunday I cleared off to the Dean Forest. It may have been OK for those, like bike2steam, who were brought up near lines with a procession of 2-6-4Ts, but I spent my youth 'spotting on the other side of the country and for me the 2-6-4 wheel arrangement has always seemed totally alien! OK, OK, I know that the WR ended up with some Standard 4s working on the S&DJR and that they infiltrated the ex-WR Cambrian lines but alien it remains! The Dean Forest's roster of pannier & small prairie was much more evocative of days at Temple Meads in the late 50s! (As far as I know LMS 2-6-4Ts never worked into Bristol but I would be interested to be proved wrong). Having said all that the line-up of so many identical locos was impressive & much to the credit of all those who organised the event & the wider preservation movement who were able to provide them. exet1095
I was there with my then girlfriend. Had a very good day out, and somewhere, I have a picture of the five 4MTs lined-up at Bridgnorth.
