I’ve always loved this thread and the highest level of modelling achieved. Everything just  “feels right” and blends with, and flows naturally into the next area.

 

The great outage which wiped out all the pictures is an immense loss.

@Mrkirtley800 something old and green came to visit today.... ive tried to weather it as much as possible as they where never kept very tidy apparently - not sure about the green as its different in the flesh

And a couple of old 4-wheel brakes, one at each end.

 

In 4 mm scale, London Road Models have provided for that:

A though occurs - were these third brakes painted green to match the workmens' carriages, or did they stay in fully-lined red?

I'm not sure I know of any photos of these workmens' trains! The chaps with the big plate cameras were prosperous gents living near the London extension, mostly interested in catching a single on the Scotch Express, not exploring the intricate network of lines in the Derbyshire / Nottinghamshire coalfield.
