Worcestershire Parkway Station - Now Open

Room to expand?

Local to me is Whitlocks End, which was a sleepy halt on the North Warwickshire line with little patronage.

Short Journey trains which normally terminated at Shirley, were extended the short distance to Whitlocks End, which got a makeover with new platforms, long ramps for wheelchairs, pushchairs etc. and a car park.

The car park has had to be extended twice so far and is full again due to the sheer number that now use this station.

Should have done it in the first place, the warning signs were there before it opened, I was chatting to some LM staff on a RR recently and they said the reservations for the car park at W Parkway had already meant that the car park was full, even before it opened! I'm not sure there's any on road parking nearby so it could get nasty when people turn up and can't park later in the morning...

Stourbridge Junction is another which is always full, and has been extended three times now, if I use LM to get into work after 9am I always have to park on the streets nearby and they are getting close to breaking point as well, the locals must be well pleased!

Along with completion of the 3rd river crossing via completion of the northern link road which would probably also alleviate traffic in the area.

Phil, what are you drinking? :D

I’ve been in Worcestershire since 1997. It was obvious that the completion of the bypass circuit was needed then. 23 years  down, maybe another 23 to go before that route gets built?

Oooh, I know Worcestershire’s answer to that one! Drive to Blakedown! (See my earlier post.) I think they’ve  recently given consent for a new car park there. (Don’t drive to Kiddy, that car park can be full by 7.45am.)

Ah, hang on, most if not all of the Worcestershire Chiltern services heading for London don’t stop at Blakedown ..........

Perhaps Worcestershire rmWebbers can put a paper together for the council to ultimately, after much debate, politely state that they haven’t the funds to execute?

How about a shuttle bus every 10-15 minutes from the extremely large  :pleasantry:Worcester Royal car park to Worcestershire Parkway? You wouldn’t have to walk far then to A&E after parking altercations?

Lucky you. We are at least 40mins from our A&E at Worcester even if we could find somewhere to park. They closed our A&E (and maternity unit) vack in the early 2000s even though our catchment area is over 200k.

Assume thats Kidderminster? At least you have direct public Transport to Worcester - used to be 315 bus from Ombersley in my day - unlike the folks from Redditch who are also supposed to be part of Worcestershire Health Community but would rather go to Birmingham.

What price joined up thinking?

Oh sorry must have been on the funny water again....

Only if you live near to the railway station and only then if you want to go to the centre of Worcester. Getting to the hospital by PT is a whole different ballgame, hence the (overused) car park... At least they say they are (at last) going to waive parking charges for blue badge holders... We try to use what's left of Kiddy when we can and we gave the specialist in Worcester the boot and use the QE in Brum instead. Even PT looks joined up when compared to the mess in the Worcestershire NHS...

You have a choice.

One of the best hospitals in the UK (QE)

One of the worst (Alex)

Where would you want to go to?

Even the ambulance crews take you to Brum for anything serious.

Is it still free parking at Worcester Woods Country Park:

Then only 5 minutes walk on the footpath through the wood to the hospital.

Martin.

Only if you can make it past the gate guard! He used to quiz me when I parked there with my NHS staff badge on - was calling in for a coffee at the Cafe after meeting at the Hospital. I always tried to avoid the Hospital car park - Leopard Rise is always worth a look first, only a few spaces but often empty when I got there

Try having a rucksack, a thermos flask, some OS maps and a pair of binoculars on the front passenger seat.

Martin.
