hartleymartin
Looks pretty good to me. It might not be 100% scale, but I wouldn't mind replacing the face with a smokebox door and giving it green respray.
RMweb Gold Corbs Posted October 27, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 27, 2015 It does look slightly too long, but I think if you removed the face and big old coupling, it would lessen the stretched look.
Edwardian
Everything is bigger in the States, so a 1/76 model will look fine for HO (!)

RMweb Premium Mike Bellamy Posted December 15, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 15, 2015 It has been reported on the Narrow Gauge Railway Modelling Online Forum that one has arrived at Peco and a review will appear in due course in Railway Modeller. Described as almost 4mm scale you have to bear in mind that it is a representation of the loco as seen in the TV series and not an accurate scale model of a TR loco. In the prototype photo above the wagons are from the Peco range and so you get an idea of the size of the loco. That´s true, but nevertheless its shape and details are actually closer to the real Talyllyn than to Skarloey. For example the front buffer beam represents pretty well Talyllyns, whilst it looks nothing like any of the models and animations of the TV series. rockershovel
I'd say that proverbial wisdom about the dentition of gift horses, applies. Looks like a very worthwhile addition to RTR 9mm narrow gauge
Grovenor
They are toys not scale models . But at Scale model prices! $63 for a simple 4 wheel wagon. regards
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted December 16, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 16, 2015 (edited) But at Scale model prices! $63 for a simple 4 wheel wagon. regards and what's more you can have the same wagon in grey or brown from the original manufacturer, Peco, for about half that price. I wondered if they were going to be twin packs but it seems they are single wagons and you can get the Peco ones for £15 to £16 plus they now do a flat and bolster wagon too. http://www.peco-uk.com/prodtype.asp?strPageHistory=category&numSearchStartRecord=0&strParents=3309,3322&CAT_ID=3324&numRecordPosition=21 Hattons have the Peco ones for £13 upwards Personally I'd get the grey Peco version and paint it blue Also Peco are about to release the GVT coaches which would go nicely with this. The Talyllyn coaches, which are 'correct' for Skarloey, that were formerly available from Meridian will be available from Narrow Planet once the handover of the plastic kit range is completed and they have wheels back in stock http://shop.narrowplanet.co.uk/collections/rolling-stock-kits Edited December 17, 2015 by PaulRhB
locoholic
Will the Bachmann Skarloey be on sale in the UK, or it is the same as their main Thomas range, for the US only, due to licensing issues?
RMweb Premium Moxy Posted December 16, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 16, 2015 Will the Bachmann Skarloey be on sale in the UK, or it is the same as their main Thomas range, for the US only, due to licensing issues? Officially no it won't, and Bachmann themselves won't supply to UK addresses, as you say due to licensing issues. The Bachmann UK site does list stockists that will supply their American outline goods here http://www.Bachmann.co.uk/uk.php?prod_selected=american which in theory includes the American Thomas range, so there's no harm in asking one of those retailers. RMweb Gold Ryde-on-time Posted December 17, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 17, 2015 Looks like these people will have them too within the next few days (have seen the company at a lot of exhibitions with the Bachmann Thomas range) https://www.tootallythomas.co.uk/blog/
Andy Y
Will the Bachmann Skarloey be on sale in the UK, or it is the same as their main Thomas range, for the US only, due to licensing issues? This is confirmed on the Bachmann website - there is no UK warranty. http://www.Bachmann.co.uk/service/faq1.php?id=185&ref=general We can't offer parts or service for: •Hong Kong made Bachmann Branchline and US models •Poole made Graham Farish models (independent repairers often can service) •Palitoy 'Mainline' models •Replica models (will say 'Bachmann Hong Kong') •Non-European licenced products: 'Thomas the Tank Engine' and 'Hogwarts Express' . RMweb Gold JohnR Posted December 17, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 17, 2015 Is there any scope for Bachmann to produce these without the face as a straightforward 009 model?
Butler Henderson
Is there any scope for Bachmann to produce these without the face as a straightforward 009 model? None whatsoever; they tried that with Thomas and Percy and fell foul of copyright issues.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted December 17, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 17, 2015 Well yes if they wanted too. The Thomas and Percy models fell foul as they were unique TV style models and not identifiable as real locos. The Thomas marketing machine already fell foul of this when they tried to stop the Talyllyn using the locos in Sodor livery, (and Stepney on the Bluebell too). If it's sold as Talyllyn the licences don't apply as it's a real loco, the identity can be protected but not the casting unless it has the face on it. I haven't bought from them on line but they have always been friendly & helpful when I have purchased from them at exhibitions Must admit I expected them to cost more than £75 considering the rrp in the US of $149.95 which is why I couldn't resist. Good to see such a healthy demand for an rtr 009 loco
Clearwater
Agreed - just need to get some n gauge track and rolling stock. I couldn't resist either!
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted December 18, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 18, 2015 (edited) Agreed - just need to get some n gauge track and rolling stock. I couldn't resist either! Why not get 009 track from Peco and their stock that will match the loco?Peco do 009 set track with 9 inch radius and flex track too. The flex track is available in Mainline with neat squared off sleepers and 'crazy track' with a more rustic look. As linked to in an earlier post there's a decent range of RTR 009 from Peco in L&B or plain liveries. Here's a link to Hattons page for 009 http://www.ehattons.com/stocklist/1000407/1000592/Peco_Products_009_Narrow_Gauge/spec_list.aspx Edited December 18, 2015 by PaulRhB
