RMweb Premium dale159 Posted February 22, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 22, 2015 Evening, A quick little experiment I've conducted over the last few days, Disappointed with the grain of wheat bulbs fitted in Heljan 47s I decided to see if replacing them with LEDs would be feasible using 3mm LEDs rated at 12 volts - so no resistors required. Headlights with a warm white LED. And with the body on. Tail lights with a red LED, unfortunately and for reasons I'm trying to establish I can't seem to get the red LED to show with the bodyshell on. I realised there is a gap of about 4mm between the LED and the light pipe so I filled it with the tower chopped off a tower LED but with no joy. I think the thing to test will be to replace the red LED with a white one, as both of the grain of wheat bulbs originally fitted were white. I've just been and tried the white headlight LED in the tail light, at least its working but its a bit on the pink side by my eyes. the imbalance in the brightness is probably due to the positioning of the LED. RMweb Gold russ p Posted February 22, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 22, 2015 You should blank one off as it used to be impossible for a 47 to show two red lights. Up to about
Crompton48
This would work well on the Heljan Hymek
