Thanks for the update Chris. That's shaping up to be rather lovely indeed. Captures the outline very well to my eyes, and the wheels and motion look particularly nice.

 

Bonus points for showing actual progress with minimal fanfare, excuses for lack of progress, froth inducing guessing games etc etc ;)

I think we can cope with a delay of a couple of days - others are now getting towards a couple of years late . . . . . . .

What a lovely big pair (of buffers!).  I note the brass chimney, how did you resist putting a copper cap on it? That really is a super model - but I will not be buying one - "Susan" would resent it.

I recently tracked down, as recommended, the excellent book: Peckett & Sons Ltd, An Album of Official Photographs, complied by Andrew Smith and published by the Industrial Railway Society, 2014 [iSBN 978 1 901556 77 3].  Along with the information that has appeared on this forum, for which I am most grateful, this book has greatly helped me in updating my webpage where I am attempting to collate information, particularly photographs, of the Peckett E Class.

The first engineering prototype of the Minerva 0 Gauge RTR Peckett 0-4-0ST locomotive has been delivered to Chris Basten for assessment. Attached are some photos of the model showing the three permutations for the safety valve adornment. Note that the two holes for the Salter version will be blanked on the production version. We are pleased with progress so far.

Here are the latest views of the 1st engineering prototype of the Minerva 0 Gauge RTR Peckett 0-4-0ST locomotive. Some amendments are required, but overall we are happy with this as a first prototype. Note that some parts are missing such as 3-link couplings, brake rods and the bell, which actually swings. Lamp irons will be supplied on a brass etch. The holes on top of the saddle tank for the Slater valves will be blank on the production model for drilling out  from under the tank.

What are the prominent 'cut-outs' in the front faces of the tyres, Chris?  I don't see these on photos nor on your earlier isometric and 3D drawings.  David

David,

They were not present on the CAD drawings and I only noticed them when I was able to examine the model in the flesh for the first time yesterday. It would appear that they are to hold the hub-spoke-inner rim moulding in place. Although it would disappear under black paint, I don't like the device and was not used on the Ixion Fowler diesel. We will be discussing this with the designer.

Slater's wheels have a similar cut out (their's are triangular in shape) but are on the back of the wheel where they are out of sight.

Hi Chris,

 

Nice to meet you and your new loco yesterday at the O Gauge Guild Summer show in Cleckheaton.

 

The photos of the loco are very good but seeing it in the flesh takes it to a much higher level of appreciation.  I like the swinging bell in the packet of little bits. Will need to sort out the right sound on a DCC sound decoder for it.

 

Your locos and other makers efforts really are combating those who say there is no great quantities at reasonable prices of RTR O gauge models.
