I also got its length and beam from the site and scaled it down from that. __________________________________________ Comment posted by wehf100 on Fri Oct 02, 2009 9:27 am Looks great, and much the better for being a proper scale length ship! It takes courage to plant something as massive as that on a model railway! I don't know how far you're going down the fine detailing route, but I have found the cost of proprietry fittings sold by model ship manufacturers can escalate quite quickly! Maybe the Lindberg 1/82 tug kit, or even the Airfix 1/72 RNLI lifeboat plastic kits could 'donate' a good number of fittings and detail parts? It strikes me this German rescue vessel, made by Revell in plastic kit form is a very similar type of ship? http://www.shipmodel..._1_1639833.html It's expensive but I bet a lot of it could be 'planted' on your model with minimum fuss!Pictures of a built version here; http://www.way2manyh...es.com/Hermann_ ... e_Ship.php happy modelling. Think I'll stick to building N gauge Humber sailing barges- they're only about 12cm long.... Will Hi Will I am Scratch building 85% to 90% of all the fittings for it so I can get it as scale as possible. Be a shame to rob only 5 or 6 parts from the Airfix and revel kits. But thanks for the interest and the info. ps,If anybody wishes to donate any plastic boat kit parts they think I can use from there scrap box! Feel free to message me and I will give you my address. I will be making the bridge with plastic card and also the top deck. So its a long way of finished just yet. I will be fully detailing the bridge interior and also the rear observation lounge and games room. If you want me to make one for you I only charge for what I knead to make them. I do it just for the modeling. carl __________________________________________ Comment posted by jim s-w on Sat Oct 03, 2009 10:57 am Hi Carl That looks well smart. Are the real ships really that tiny? Big model of a very very small ferry Cheers Jim __________________________________________ ??? posted on Sun Oct 04, 2009 12:19 am jim s-w wrote: Hi Carl That looks well smart. Are the real ships really that tiny? Big model of a very very small ferry Cheers Jim Thanks Jim I kneaded this to push me in the right direction I was unhappy with the size as it was being a pig to scale the decks right, looking in to the car deck from the back, it was to square and could only fit 2 trucks side by side. so I am sorry to say that ferry is in the bin!!! After humming and arring over its size! Last night, I re emailed ships of calmac site, had a response this dinner time that I new the answer before I read it. They had given me the wrong ship size! They did not say what ship was 215ft long but they did give me the correct size for HEBRIDEAN ISLES. Its 279ft long by 51ft wide! So, its a lot bigger, 1116mm (44???‚¬??) by 204mm wide (6???‚¬??) I have cut out the new hull base and done the car deck walls and roof, to be honest it looks 100% better already and can fit 3 trucks side by side with room to get out. I will post new pictures of the new one soon. Very impressive. Keep the pictures coming on progress Don't bin the other one, offer it on here. Someone with less space may make you an offer for all that work!! __________________________________________ Comment posted by red death on Mon Oct 05, 2009 11:39 am Having travelled on a fair few of the Calmac boats they do vary in size a lot (from no cars to a handful of cars to 50+ cars)! Having said that your second version looks more realistic in scale. Keep up the good work - will be good to see this finished. __________________________________________ ??? posted on Mon Oct 05, 2009 10:30 pm Hi all Thanks for all the comments I have been working on the ferry tonight, got the promenade deck done and sanded the bow to shape ready for the plastic card to go on. 9032_1061813084317_1795675481_125811_1825039_n.jpg (53.32 KiB) 9032_1061813124318_1795675481_125812_178769_n.jpg (47.29 KiB) 9032_1061813244321_1795675481_125815_1813613_n.jpg (42 KiB) 9032_1061813204320_1795675481_125814_6963072_n.jpg (50.9 KiB) 9032_1061813164319_1795675481_125813_3631078_n.jpg (53.51 KiB) __________________________________________
