LC&DR
I am fairly certain I have read in the Railway Observer many years ago that a 5Bel unit worked a charter to Dartford, but I cannot find it now, so it has to be a 'probable'.
RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted January 5, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 5, 2017 That rings a distant bell but the Bels (and all similar units of that era) were banned from many SED routes account they were considered out of gauge. I'm afraid I can't supply any more information as to whether or not the working actually took place.
Nearholmer
Back to something I mentioned earlier: a photo of Bels at an unknown location, but which looks very SE to me ........ I must hunt it out.

I ASSUME that this is what is being demonstrated on this photograph now up on E-Bay (at Virginia Water) ; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123703044647?ul_noapp=true ( The usual disclaimer, I have no connection with the listing. ) . Nearholmer
Could be the very same working as shown in the link in Talisman's original posting. Was the curve onto the Windsor Branch from the 'country' side still in-situ in 1953, and was it electrified? If so, this could be a Portsmouth to Windsor working, as it is shown in the photo coming off the Addlestone line at Virginia Water. The head code has me a bit confused, though, because on the SW, I thought that 04 meant Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour via Leatherhead. RMweb Gold Strathwood Posted March 28, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 28, 2019 This could be a Royal Special in connection with a RN Fleet inspection? Kevin
RMweb Gold Strathwood Posted March 28, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 28, 2019 (edited) Have taken a second look as it carries two front headlamps and is spotless I firmly believe this a Royal Special. Nearholmer
Oh, I too think it is a Royal Train, my questions being whether it is the same one as in the other image, and what the route was. Kevin

It is the same working - here is a link to the page that the photo I linked earlier came from: http://www.guildford-dragon.com/2014/10/30/working-on-the-railway-by-bob-hind-and-his-award-winning-staff-magazine/ In 1953 '04' on SWD was Windsor-Portsmouth Harbour (special Traffic workings) via Woking (from the 1939 list on SEMG), this had changed in the 1961 list to Windsor to Portsmouth Harbour (special) via Worplesdon. EDIT: The Staines West Curve was electrified, and removed in 1965. Edited March 28, 2019 by talisman56 Added West Curve info
RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted April 2, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 2, 2019 I bought the photo so here it is. I used to travel frequently from Platform 3 at Virginia Water on 2-EPBs from Weybridge. Yes it was according to 'Prior's Signal Box Diagrams' volume 26.

Yes according to 'Prior SB Diagrams'. it would be assumed that it remained electrified until removal.
