Campaman
As already said, the model is amazing, I am thoroughly enjoying watching it come together. One question, how do you cut the parts out? Is it by hand or with a machine?
Mirmic
Hi Campaman, The parts I cut by hand, straight line by Olfa cutter according to the ruler, the curved line by small chisel, like Silhouette cutter but much slower Cheers Mirek

JohnBS
Mirek, I have been following this thread for several weeks now, with great interest. Just like everyone else, I am tremendously impressed by the quality of your work - it is superb. There obviously is a tradition for engineering models in card in Poland, which we don't have in the UK. I can see from some of your postings how you make the pipework and some of the details but what intrigues me is how you produce the wheels. Are they metal (bought) or have you made them from layers of card? If they are card, how do you get the metal shine on the tires? Congratulations, John
Mirmic
Hi John, Thanks for your grats, The wheels are made of paper. Proces of modeling you can see below step by step: Surface where should be visible metal shining is covered by layer of AC glue (Superglue or similar) This surface is polished by sandpaper 1500 and later cover by metalizer. I use polish metalizer Sniezka, bought in local market. Painting I make by brush. Cheers Mirek

Mirmic
Hello, Today assembly of high pressure unit. It was assembled without glue, for checking if elements are correct and to check if there isn't any colision of parts. I've started painting of elements: rgds Mirek
edcayton
I have to say that it never occurred to me that it moves as well. That takes it to an even higher level and my jaw drops further. Brilliant stuff. Ed

fjrsteve
Hello Mirmic, That is exceptional engineering and I am in awe of your patience. I hope you don't mind me asking a couple of questions? 1. What glue do you use for the assembly of the components? 2. What type of paint do you use for card? 3. Do you apply a protective finish to the completed assemblies/model? Thanks for sharing your models and the progress of your current project. Mirmic
Hi Steve, Depends of elements I use 3 kinds of glue: Bison Kontakt for sticking layers of cardboard Brand Clear Glue for sticking cardboard elements SuperGlue for connection cardboard with metal. This glue is also used for improving of strength of cardboard. For painting I use Pactra and metalizer Model Master. At the finish of building I put the models to glass cabinet, no apply any finishing protective. The reason why I joined to this forum was to exchange remarks, experiences then I am happy if I can answer for the questions or receive sugestions. LSWRArtilary
Hi Campaman, The parts I cut by hand, straight line by Olfa cutter according to the ruler, the curved line by small chisel, like Silhouette cutter but much slower Cheers Mirek Hello Mirek, This web site is being passed on to lots of other modellers and we are all logging on and are incredibly impressed by your work. Can I ask whether you made your own rivet punch and do you use punches to cut out other small holes - if so, are these commercially available, or do you make your own? Thanks, Art
Mirmic
Hi Art, thanks for your words, Regarding tool to prepare rivets and cut out small holes: metal handle comes of a set of small screw taps. Punch was made myself using injection needles, inside are the spring of the lighter and metal rod for removing paper. Peter Kazmierczak
Mirek, I honestly thought your wheels were made out of metal. Seeing those card wheels has given me an idea to try to make some colliery winding wheels out of card. Brilliant stuff! Peter
