Quaker Lane 2

HI All

Those of you who followed the old forums or have been on Darlington Model Railway Club's website may well have been aware of a DCC project titled "Quaker Lane."

The layout concept was born several years ago, but over the years the personel have changed and more importantly dwindled so last year the decision was taken to stop the project and re-group! We still wanted the same ideas - i.e. Prototype length trains, urban setting, high quality of finish but we would need to design the layout around a group of say 5 members. This meant that the complicated staggered ladder crossing on the original layout had to go.

This is the track plan so far (you may well have seen it on the siganlling thread started by fellow member Andy!

I've put the layout in the layout section of the forum rather than on a blog as no doubt other members will be keeping you upto date with the layout as it starts in ernest over the coming weeks!

But very briefly;

The layout will be built to 00 16.5mm scale with handbuilt C&L pointwork with a mixture of wooden and concrete sleepers.

The visual part of the layout will be 19ft by 3ft and viewed very high up around 54" so as to look into the model rather like a diarama. Indeed some of the buildings will be tall than the viewer. We are using some of the tricks used on Layouts such as Farkham to create a realistic atmosphere, while we draw our control inspiration from Beast, Mike and the rest of the Wirral lads, as we are going down the Railroad & Co. route!

All stock will be fully detailed sound fitted representations of actual workings in 1983/1987 and research is ongoing to workings and formations from the time! Summer Saturday might feature as we all recall some of the special workings around the time!

Anyway thats what weve been doing at Darlington - when not arranging the show!

Regards

Dave
