Rapido Back in the UK!

We’re back! Well, at least I am… I’m representing Rapido at the York Show (along with “Mr. Tilt himself!) and then on to Locomotion, Shildon for our scan event on April 8.

My trip started on Amtrak #171 from Old Saybrook to Newark, New (not as nice as old….) Jersey, then on to Philadelphia and a night flight to Manchester.

Amtrak 171 in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.

I arrived yesterday morning in Manchester and was met by our friend Arran who had just driven down from Scotland. Giving the pace at which he made the trip I am now calling him the Flying Scotsman”! Arran had a rather full day planned.

We started at Ramsbottom on the East Lancs Railway.

We arrived just in time to catch Hunslett Austerity Tank “Sapper” in WD paint and apparently without overflow protection!

From there it was on to Haworth on the Keighly and Worth Valley where I promptly lost Arran!

The Time Machine works!

I found Arran in the office talking to the staff. He came out and told me that he had just signed my life away but that it might be (no pun intended) worth it. It was! We were both to be allowed cab rides over the entire line in both directions!

The train arrived to a fairly sizable crowd for a Thurdsay, and we were off! Power was provided by BR Standard 4 #75078, fresh out of a recent major overhaul.

75078 at Keighley.

Being a GWR fan, I was pleased to see that the loco at least had a decent pedigree….

Driver Steve and crew members Peter and Phil (I hope I got the names correct guys, I was jetlagged!) were very gracious hosts! I did my round trip then with some reluctance I handed off to Arran who did his trip while I enjoyed the comfy coaches and the Real Ale in the buffet (It had been a long day!).

What an amazing line! The countryside is gorgeous, the track and equipment very well maintained and the staff were marvelous.

As “icing on the cake” we were treated to tours around the engine shop were Bulleid 4-6-2 “City of Wells” was just getting steam up for the coming weekend’s events. Just an amazing day.

Below are just a few more images from the day. I am writing this now sitting in Search Engine, the research Library at NRM, York where I have spent the morning rounding up information on our next project, the…. Oh my – look at the time! Sorry, have to run over to help set up at the show!

Hope to see many of you at York this weekend and at Shildon on Wednesday were all will be revealed!

-Bill

I think I met Bill and Mr TIlt at York Show today, thanks for the chat guys very informative. The model looks stunning and it's not even the finished article they said the body gap would be addressed, something to do with moulding techniques I think. If anyone is sitting on the fence wondering whether or not to order one I strongly advise that you do it looks perfect and captures the prototype beautifully. I really hope they do other unusual british subjects in the future ie. Prototype hst hint hint.

Duchy Invaded!!!!!

Film at 11:00....

We spent a few minutes this morning filming the sound decoder functions on the incredible "Diesels in the Duchy" OO/EM layout at the York Show. We will be posting the video as soon as I can finish editing it (for those of you at the show who have seen me behind the bar at the C-Rail/DC Kits booth - that is what I'm doing behind the hand pumps. No, really!) In the meantime, here are a few still images.

Thanks to Damien and the guys for letting us take over their layout this morning.

With the taking over of Diesels in the Duchy does that mean you'll be scanning Cornish Pasties to put in the model too ? :)

The 'gas turbine powered' Western that Biffo used to check out the sound file would fit right in on the Duchy layout!

Here's some lo-res pics I took at the vid session this morning. Gues who left his main camera back in the Forest of Dean?  :nono:

The P-Way gang were a trifle mystified when they heard this jet airliner passing LOW overhead and all of a sudden the lookout blew his horn and THIS appeared round the bend!

Seeing it on a layout, all I can say is WOW. Glad I ordered one when it first came out. Also, glad I got to have a quick chat with mr tilt at York. As I said there to you, without the team at the RTC the modern railways worldwide would be a totally different place than they are now, and not for the better.
