brigo Posted November 18, 2016 Share Posted November 18, 2016 At some point in the late 70's/early 80's SBB changed their corporate colours from green to red and subsequently various loco series on order where delivered in red instead of the originally planned green. IIRC that goes for the Re 4/4, Ae 6/6 and Re 6/6 series, but I don't know the particulars by heart The changeover from green to red was in the early 1980's and I believe the first locos to appear in a "red livery" were the 4 members of class Re 4/4 IV in 1982, each one having the livery applied differently. The Ae 6/6 was built in the early 60's, the Re 6/6 in the late 70's, so both all had green livery. It was only a few members of class Re 4/4 III which remained to be built up to 1985, so some of these may have come out in red livery. Brian Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Nice pic's Dave, keep 'em comin' please! Some of the blue is fading of the film, I don't always get the colour correction quite right - and sometimes different bits of the slide have changed colour in different ways. The photos are a mix of Dad's and mine - his have a "J" at the start of the file number, mine have a "C". All of the colour ones were scanned from slide film - mainly Agfachrome or early Fujichrome. In all, including my British ones, I have around 40,000 railway photo scans, plus a few of my Mum's, as she also took (and at 92 still takes) some railway photos - she likes railways and other mechanical things having worked as a turbine designer at the end of the war after doing a maths degree. Keith Depending on the age of the film Agfa can have either a blue or green cast (the latter usually on very old slides). I find early Fujichrome (1970s) goes brown with age and loses a lot of the green - which is almost impossible to put back without spending a long time on each image. I've only scanned a few Ferrania colour slides, it can have various colour casts. Ektachrome I find often has a distinct blue green tinge. The other issues involve grain, contrast and "sharpness". Kodachrome gives very sharp results, other films less so. But Kodachrome was only 25ASA, too slow for my purposes. Agfa and Fuji did not give such sharp results (grain structure etc). When I look at books of colour photos I can very often tell what film was used for each image. For a time in the 80s I used Supasnaps slide film (made by 3M I believe), newly processed it was good but it didn't keep well, there was a significant colour shift and apparent loss of sharpness. All color film, slide and negative, fades on exposure to light. About 20? years ago I read an article, I think in Amateur Photographer, about some experiments done with slides. There was apparently a measurable shift in the colours of the dyes in the film after about 30 seconds in a projector - and remember once the colour changes it never goes back to what it was originally. When I scanned mine I usually saved the scan without much correction. As I prepare them for the web (or whatever) I work on them in Photoshop (usually CS3). Sometimes Autolevels will be enough, at other times I make manual adjustments to colour balance. If all else fails I open the image "As Raw" and then correct each colour independently. Edit to add: In my first job, between school and University I did a lot of photomicrography of slides of animal tissues, we processed all our own slide film and found that the processing of the film, both temperature and times in each bath was critical in getting repeatable colours. And Sestri Levante to Dortmund - that's a nice scenic journey, with the Mediterranean, the Alps and the section along the Rhine. Carlo Magno = Charlemagne if anyone hadn't realised. The thing I remember were the trains consisting of coaches from several different countries. Mostly the standard "European" profile with (IIRC) some OBB ones lower in height.
