Allegheny1600
Hi Dave, Very atmospheric those French photos, thanks. I can't help but notice that they look very reminiscent of colourised prints from the early 1900's (no disrespect intended!), I wonder if that was Agfa film you used? I'm sure some of my old slide went like this you see! I still enjoy seeing them anyway, thanks. Cheers, John E.

Over time the blues tend toi turn greener which makes scanning and correcting them quite a big task! Some I have more success with than others. The French photos are not amongst Dad's best, for some reason the lens was not always stopping down correctly so there is some over exposure - but only on random images. When he got home and the slides came back from Agfa he bought a new camera! David Hi David, Thanks for confirming what I had suspected, that Agfa film must be the bane of many photographers over the years but you've done a good job of rendering them very viewable indeed. I certainly find pictures from that period highly interesting, many thanks for your work on them. I'm guessing your dad was a very keen photographer? Also, my apologies for getting you name wrong previously! Cheers, John.

Agfa goes green, Fuji loses a lot of the green, it goes an olive colour, Ektachrome can have an overall green tinge and so on. You also have the problem of fading caused by exposure to any light while they are stored. Many years ago I read an article in Amateur Photographer which said that there is a measurable shift in colour balance on a slide after being in a projector for only thirty seconds! David There was even worse; studying geography and geology for A-levels in the early 1970s, I had to do a lot of fieldwork, recording sites with photographs. Given the time-lag between taking the photo and receiving the prints, often finding that there were problems with the shot, dad thought it would be a good idea to buy me a Polaroid, so I could check the image immediately. What we didn't realise was that, in the year between taking the photos, and submitting them for my practical exams, the prints had sometimes degenerated to the extent that they were unrecognisable. There were a few hurried sorties to retake things when we discovered this...
RMweb Gold DaveF Posted May 24, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 24, 2015 (edited) Austria again this evening, this time on a (very) wet day in Salzburg.
