Opening out the cutting leading to Liverpool Central is well under way now.

At the far end Park Street crosses the CLC, this bridge is actually a plate girder similar to the one before which used to be the start of the cassette fiddle yard. Instead of this one I have moved the first tunnel one street nearer, this should make a better scenic break when the roof and bin liner screen are added. There is a signal on the up line here so there will be an excuse to hold Manchester bound trains in view if we want to. The central road was mostly used for empty stock and light engine movements and ends with a ground signal under Caryl Street bridge, next signal on the down line is after the tunnel.

A few photos from Herculaneum Dock before we pack it up for the Liverpool show.

The LOR Ruston 48DS has now been painted and lined by Dave Studley, waiting for the signal with the works train. The wheelbase is far too short to get across the dead frog sprung points so it always runs with the open wagon at least for additional pickups.

Dave has also lettered and lined the new 14" Hunslet, seen here by the weighbridge.

The Ruston has now got as far as Toxteth Dock, warehouse in the background and two meat container wagons on the MDHB below.

View from the back, rebuilt car No8 passing by southwards.

A J11/3 is just leaving its train the goods arrival loop before going on to shed to turn.

Another view from further along the Horsfall Street footbridge, BR Pug and and MDHB Hunslet 15" parked along the dock road.

Excellent stuff as always Mike, but I wish you'd darken your couplings!!!!!

Really enjoyed seeing this layout today at the Liverpool show. Watched it for a while, there was a lot to take in and always something moving. I suppose knowing the location well also made it more interesting.

My older brother got brought home by a policeman one day, him and his mate were caught throwing stones at the engines from the footbridge and one hit one of the footplate crew.

Some interesting discussions at the show with lots of people talking about the LOR.

The bright green engine has had a little toning down done..further weathering will be done.

The LOR Ruston is s pretty in lined out green and it should stay clean.

One of my favourite layouts of all time I spent a lot of time in front of it at the Liverpool show. Took plenty of photos.

A shot of the prototype not sure if you've seen this one Mike?

Thanks Mike, I've not got that one but have you any idea which small Avonside it is? Can you send me the photos you took at the show? - or put them on here.

Herculaneum Dock is being re-assembled in the shed after its Liverpool outing but first some rewiring work on the MDHB system.

post-1643-0-69446100-1503318816_thumb.jpg

This is the board where the dock operator sits, the wiring for all the diamond crossings on the dock railway can now be simplified after the conversion to DCC. All these crossings were switched by stacks of microswitches on two H&M point motors but they were not very reliable and half of them were redundant so they have been cut down to essential ones.

This board is about 24 years old now and the wiring isn't exactly up to my latest standard but I couldn't face rewiring it completely - rewiring Cwmafon took two of us a year to complete.

Next show booked is Nottingham 2018.

Dock railways Canadian style, we had just crossed over the railway down by the river in Montreal on Sunday morning...

post-1643-0-95290100-1508169143_thumb.jpg

and saw this coming towards us.

post-1643-0-12033300-1508169185_thumb.jpg

more of it rolling past

post-1643-0-83266700-1508169222_thumb.jpg

and still more, we lost count of the number of cars but it rolled slowly past for 25 minutes, then we could cross back over to the street.

I think this is possibly a daily transfer trip from the Eastern docks along the river frontage to the main CN yards, there were only two locos on the front and a similar train ran at the same time on Saturday.
