K,

Not so sure about the Chatham side, but from the list of slithery things depicted the poster is definitely upside down for display anywhere in the British Isles.

Regards

CH

P.S.

Kirtley P - I'm very impressed by Saltdean and some of your interesting methods. Well done and keep at it.

Regards

Chris H

Quite agree about the snakes - another Victoria.

OTOH, as C Hamilton Ellis pointed out in respect of the foundling in that Oscar Wilde play, the Chatham side was always downmarket.

At last Saltdean has a brewery! it's just standing in place to make sure it fits, but I couldn't resist taking some pictures.

I would have loved to be able to model Harvey's in Lewes, but it's enormous so I've had to be content with this.

The brewery and thge loco shed sidings extend right into the fiddle yard making operation a lot more flexible. I'll have to replace that crinkled backscene.

I'll paint the metal bands on the beer barrels tomorrow.

I wondered if the company name had been changed at some point, to reflect the creation of a limited liability company, as they raised additional capital for expansion.

K

(Actually, I didn't notice the difference, so am just trying to think of excuses for you. But, although the act permitting the creation of limited liability companies precedes your date, I do wonder whether "Ltd." Was commonly used this early.)

{answered my own question: Certainly Symonds Cyder was "& Co. Ltd." By 1885}

I've been working on the layout again this morning and it's finished enough to photograph although there is still more to do.

Booth Bros supplied the LBSC with loco coal in the 1880's, the company didn't have their own wagons.

Richmond is a real cracking engine Peter. My guess as to its appearance at Saltdean could have something to do with Saltdean Brewers launching a new beer with free tastings on the beach. What ever it sure looks grand.

Here's a link to a video I took of the layout yesterday at York.

The layout ran better as the weekend progressed but we had problems with some of the engines, which is why Dieppe and Richmond are on shed! Never mind, they'll be sorted before the next show in August. We resorted to some of the local brew to get us through the day...........

The latest addition to the loco's on Saltdean is a 'Belgravia' 2-4-0....not finished, but she's running so what's left to do is just decoration. She's another of Mike Waldron's kits, a pleasure to build.

The only problem I've got is the springs for the driving wheels, which were underhung; fit them, and you can't get the body off. They'll need to be removable, but fitted securely enough to stay in place during normal running. More thought required!

'Belgravia' has moved on enough to photograph her again, although the other side needs finishing off.

She sits too high on the chassis but any lower and the wheels short out on the body; overscale flanges combined with scale sized wheels unfortunately. It's more important that she runs and hopefully it won't be noticable on the layout.

Mike Waldron of EB Models is happy to produce more of his LBSCR kits in 7mm scale (he produces the kit for Belgravia). Possible loco's include the Lyons 0-4-2, the C/C1 0-6-0's and some of the singles such as the 'G' or the one off 'Sussex'. If anyone is interested e-mail me at peter.smith5547@gmail.com and I'll pass it on to Mike.....it needs three or four people to make altering the 4mm artwork them worthwhile.
