RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted May 3, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) As many of you have been aware, I've felt the need to "shake" the Lounge up a bit. It has been running for over 2 years and recently reached 9,000 posts. I could have let things continue as they are, but as a multi-themed thread (to put it mildly - the Universe has been its oyster) I feel it has become unwieldy. The Lounge was originally set up as an overflow for my KL thread, in order to stop the (already massive) KL thread becoming totally clogged up. The initial brief of the Lounge (see post #1) was for it to become a place for discussing just about anything EXCEPT KL. I'd like to change things a little, at this point. Please use the existing "Lunester Lounge" for RAILWAY related topics - kit building, non-thread specific hints/tips, Rob's pics, garden railways etc etc. Use the New Lounge for EVERYTHING else! I don't see any problem in this - in fact, it should make things easier in terms of the separation of railway/non-railway topics. I've sometimes looked for something, wondering whether it's in KL or the Lounge and ended up finding some comment on eg. couplings in between Jock's comments on black holes, Don's comments on drains, Andy's "heee heee heee", Scott's comments on spiders or my own tripe.... I KNOW there is never a clear cut demarcation between railways and everything else. But a discussion of 3-links should be easy enough to keep separate from Clive's sausages or my estimates of grains of sand on a beach. So, please use the NEW LOUNGE - c'mon mate (Scott) - give us a better name (he suggested Lunester Lounge, and I know my 'strine is cr*p!!) - for music, hobbies (non-railway), books, humour, astronomy, cooking.....you name it, chuck it in there. RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted May 3, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 3, 2015 Due to the fact 99% of posts in the old lounge were about everything else I would have put the railway related stuff in here Jeff but that would have been only too obvious. Andrew P
Hi Jeff, Great start and first post, DAM, as I write this I see Shaun has beaten me to the 2nd post. Never mind, I would suggest that the Old Lounge should be re named The Waiting Room, leaving this for the New Lounge. Garden pics in here soon then Jeff, and some of Brother Steven's new Lawn very soon as well. Good move mate.

Hi Shaun. The reason I've done it this way is because I wanted to keep all the existing railway stuff, and in particular Rob's photos, all in one place. If I'd swapped them across I think it would have caused confusion. Jeff

The garden is ready for the lawn, but that'll now be happening in a couple of weeks. We've ordered a couple of tons of bark and loads of cobbles etc for later this week - so there'll be pics of those! And I've bought the carpet tiles for the bunker - but can't do anything at the mo as all my joints seem to have stiffened up!! Jeff

Allegheny1600
Well, you guys have got me tittering away already! So! This is the "anything goes" thread, eh? Cool! Let's see how it goes, hopefully we will keep it (relatively) sensible(!), I think querying how many grains of rice are produced in China every year should be a decent start!!! Cheers Y'all, John.
RMweb Gold Anotheran Posted May 3, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 3, 2015 How about renaming the old lounge to "The Lunester Inspection Saloon"... looking into everything railway related and this one, either "The Lunester Lounge", "Lunester Lounge Car" or "The waiting room" (as per Andy above) where everything else gets discussed when not on railway inspection duty. Kind regards, Neil

BEHAVE YOURSELF!! Don't get me started! John, you know I like a challenge.... .... Assuming 1.1 billion chinese, eating 100g of rice a day. Mass of a typical rice grain.... ENOUGH!! Peter Kazmierczak
What about "The Hadrian Bar", named after the Mk1 derived Pullman Car #354 used on the Tees-Tyne Pullman in the 1960s? Oops, I've just mentioned railways on the non-railway thread.
RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted May 4, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 4, 2015 (edited) How's about "Lunester Concourse ". n. a large open space for accommodating crowds as at railway termini! jukebox
*found it* (thanks to me seeing Sasquatch posting!) Jeff I would have thought your original KL thread was "The Waiting Room"...waiting for grass, waiting for drystone walls, wait for Godot... Call me sentimental, but I hope you'll keep the title of The Lunster Lounge - it just seems "right" after all this time using it (and honestly, no, not because you chose my nickname for it) ..and if this thread is everything but Railways, then maybe it's The Privvy. Because it'll be where we just talk... I'll get my coat, yes? Scott Edited May 4, 2015 by jukebox
RMweb Gold Donw Posted May 4, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 4, 2015 (edited) We should have started with something really erudite such as Dark matter or Entropy that would scare most people off. However, you - or anybody else - are welcome to start the ball rolling! What shall it be? "Dicussions on the children's book "An Introduction to Dark Energy"", "Do Gravitational Waves exist?", "Experiences of Tensor Algebra", or should we just go for something simple like "Does Hubble's Constant vary with time"? Better still, how about a few garden photos and we can discuss magnolias and rhododendrons... Jeff

Waiting to get into the bunker amongst all the cr*p that's still stacked up in there! The Privvy - are you some kind of loo-natic (sorry, that is execrable....) As for the "old" Lounge, well, the jury is still out. I'm still taking in feedback and I think I'll put a selection of names to a vote on Thursday. A Lunester equivalent of the UK General Election!! Peter Kazmierczak
I've delivered all my (A6-size) leaflets so will have to see what happens on 7th. As an independent, I'm on a hiding to nothing. Visited some 3,000 homes. At one I could hear a couple of chaps in a shed - the door was open and inside was an N-gauge layout. As a true politician I said it looked very good, though if I were honest....
