tjf4375
This is looking great! You've probably said before but I was wondering what you had planned for the platform end beyond the current baseboard? - EDIT sorry, I should have read your post properly, sorry! RBE
Looks very good mate. It makes a big difference to progress having a layout set up and ready to receive!
Pete the Elaner
Cheers Tom! Can't wait to get some stock running now. Just need to get some electrics run down to the shed and it will be complete! Best regards, Jeremy I had to read that twice. The first time invoked images of running an 86 or 87 on the layout. I hope the shed is well insulated. It would be heartbreaking to have your hard work compromised by damp.
cornish trains jez
Thanks guys for your kind comments. The shed has been insulated with celotex and then panelled over with ply. There will be plenty of 86's and 87's running! Best regards, Jeremy
Popular Post cornish trains jez
Good evening, The extra hour of sunlight this evening has allowed me to work a little later and make some additions to the current main scenic baseboard. To allow the track to have enough clearance and curve gently into the fiddle yard, I've had to add an additional 12cm to one side of the board. So, I started by cutting out some slots next to the current joists to accommodate some additional joists (which will be screwed to the current ones for strength and support) to hold the extra piece of ply. Here are the first to joists in place with a short length of track to check this would be the right width before continuing with the rest. And the four additional joists in place. A section of ply was then fixed into position on top. It will need some additional supports under but I can add these at a later date. And the short section of track posed showing the curve that will be necessary as the tracks head under the road bridge to gain access to the fiddle yard. This is the space that will carry the curved section into the yard and will allow a meter diameter for the outside curved track so should be enough for all tracks to curve into the fiddle yard without any being too sharp a radius. Next, I'll be building the curved board and also the half train shed board and lay the remaining track. It's making such a difference having it all permanently set up. I can literally head into the shed and crack on whereas before I had to set it all up on the dining room table which took time. andy stroud
That's very impressive indeed Jeremy. It's going to be an amazing layout. The railway room looks nice too. It does look very tidy or perhaps the photos are deceptive?!
Freight Connection
Ideal space Jeremy, exciting times for you on two fronts. Repeating a previous post, 'Like' never gives this project enough credit. Best Wishes - Steve
cornish trains jez
Nice shed, what size is that? Thanks! It's 13ft x 7ft. I got it at a good price which meant that I had enough funds to buy all the insulation and ply to panel it out.

It does look very tidy or perhaps the photos are deceptive?! Thanks Andy. It's tidy at the moment as all my rolling stock and books are in boxes neatly stacked under the layout. I've still some more things to bring out from the house, magazines etc so it will be quite busy in there once I have everything in the shed. Ideal space Jeremy, exciting times for you on two fronts. Highlandman
I have been watching this thread for a while and the layout is going to look amazing, can't wait to see it on the exhibition circuit. The shed looks great and with all the insulation should be very comfortable in the summer and winter. But I sometimes wonder about how secure sheds are having experienced my brother in laws shed being broken into and lots of tools taken away. Are you fitting a shed alarm to yours, as well as other security deterents, especially as you have clear glass in the windows. I wish you every succes for the future build of the layout, aswell as your new family All the best AndyM

I haven't alarmed the shed but we are quite secure here as our gardens just back onto each others so I'm hoping I'll never have any issues. cromptonnut
Hi Andy, Thanks for looking in and watching the thread. I haven't alarmed the shed but we are quite secure here as our gardens just back onto each others so I'm hoping I'll never have any issues. Best regards, Jeremy That's what I thought when I lived in London but some scroate still managed to garden-hop, force a window and help themselves to some electronics one day... An alarm is always worth it, especially given the world today and the lack of respect for other's property.
Popular Post cornish trains jez
Good afternoon everyone, With my wife not feeling quite so well today, I decided to leave her to relax indoors and feel better (I think she appreciated the peace and quiet), so me and my little boy headed to the shed to do some work on the layout. He's quite a lively little chap so best he spent the day helping me out, which he loves, and actually, for a four year old, he's pretty good! So I have finally built the train shed board which, as mentioned in a previous post, will be half the prototype size so it fits in the space I have in the shed. Some timber had already been purchased and I have lots of ply leftover from panelling the shed so the off cuts could be used for the baseboards. Here is the frame finished and in position: And with the pieces of ply covering to finish it off: I'm quite pleased with how this has turned out so I decided to get some stock out.....got carried away and got lots of stock out!! So "This is Euston" with plenty of services awaiting departure... A multitude of liveries which is why I love this period so much..plus it's the one I grew up with! Locos on the stabling road waiting their next turn of duty... Some sort of aerial views... Northampton Cobbler in the foreground Here is my 317. Still needs some work on the painting and the red line doing but not far off now. Then just the other driving car to tackle. Well, I hope you have enjoyed the photos and it certainly gives an impression of how things will eventually look. Once I have my delivery of easitrac, I'll get all the track laid on this board ready for wiring. Best regards, Jeremy
tjf4375
Wow. I've been following this thread for over a year now, and it's simply amazing to see what you've achieved. Seeing the lines extended with whole trains sitting on them really gives a sense of the scale of the undertaking. I'm guessing you can't wait to get that track laid and the platforms in place! Do you have plans to put cameras at platform level so that when the roof goes on, you can watch trains arriving and departing from a passenger viewpoint?
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted April 2, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 2, 2017 Even for a half sized board that is some pretty impressive train lengths that you can accommodate, I look forward to seeing further developments.
RMweb Premium nick_bastable Posted April 2, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 2, 2017 given the amount of stock I would urge fitting security locks to those big windows, blinds and a alarm great progress hope it runs as well as it looks how are you intending moving the points ? Nick I think I will look into alarms, sounds like it's going to be a good idea just in case. The points will be moved using the MERG system and a similar set up of tie bars below the baseboards like Ian Morgan has on his Freshwater layout. RMweb Premium nick_bastable Posted April 2, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 2, 2017 the association points units work really well with servos and merg boards ( used them on line No20 ) also think insurance would not pay up if shed is not secured and alarmed btw congratulations on the latest anticipated addition your going to need a 2mm Thomas soon ( actually I think Jerry Clifford has one of those, Thomas that is ) Nick
RMweb Gold TomE Posted April 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 2, 2017 Amazing stuff Jeremy, a perfect example of what you can achieve in a relatively small space with N/2mm! Tom.
RMweb Gold Colin_McLeod Posted April 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 2, 2017 I strongly recommend an alarm now that you have told the world that you don't have one. The layout is fantastic.
87023Velocity
Hi Jeremy, Euston certainly looks at home in your shed. This will be a stunning layout and the stock looks superb. You could have a mainline heading off into the garden from your shed. Cheers Simon
